UK is getting a new baseball stadium
The Kentucky baseball team is getting a brand new stadium.
UK announced on Friday that it has received approval to begin construction on a $49 million stadium on campus. Construction is set to begin in February and will be completed by fall of 2018.
The new stadium will be located off Alumni Drive between the football training facility and the soccer complex.
A press conference will be held on Monday to announce further details. For now, here’s a video from UKAthletics.com to explain a little more:

Looks like saying “goodbye” to the purple lot will be in order.
There is a large grass area for the stadium. They could add more parking for baseball and football.
Have they announced what the plans would be for the Cliff? Could tear it down and put up a huge parking structure. Would help tremendously with the parking situation
@The Wildcat, if you look here : https://www.uky.edu/EVPFA/Facilities/MasterPlan/images/MasterPlan_Map_2013-11-08.jpg … it appears they’re going to add a parking lot.
It’s about time! Great job to Mitch Barnhart and the rest of the athletic department! I know they’ve been working on this for years and it’s finally happening. Much deserved.
The stadium in the video is a lot smaller than the one in the top picture.
Hate to be negative. But this is why I think you see empty seats at the football games. The football and basketball programs pay for all these upgrades. 49 million for stadium for a program that I would guess averages 500 people a game. That’s why my parking pass cost 580 dollars a season
Waaaaaaaaaa Waaaaaaaa!
Actually the SEC Network pays for all these upgrades.
And baseball games are a sizable chunk of SEC programming in the spring and summer.
I also highly doubt that you “hate to be negative”. You sound like a person who whines a lot throughout the day.
Why? How much revenue is the baseball team bringing in? How many fans go to the games?
Why not contract with the minor league stadium and use it?
This will help baseball recruiting.
Why do you care? I doubt you ever came to a baseball game anyways… so chances are you were never going to come in the future. If it improves recruiting and allows UK to be more competitive in the SEC, possibly make a college world series… how is that a bad thing? Wouldn’t it be nice to shut Louisville Fans up when they rant about all the sports they’re competitive in? It’s no money out of YOUR pocket either way… so why complain?
What’s the point of having a baseball program if you’re not going to do the things necessary to help it be successful? If you believe UK should only have a football and men’s basketball team… then you’re repressed pro-sports fan wondering around on a college sports website.
Good Dr., the reason I care is because it is money out of my pocket that pays for it.
Where does one volunteer to be one of those guys in the outfield plaza that walks without going anywhere…that’s something I could do pretty well…
