UK Hoops loses two straight

The 10th-ranked Kentucky women’s basketball team lost its second game in a row in a loss to No. 11 South Carolina in Columbia tonight. Matthew Mitchell called the road game his team’s “annual trip to the dentist office, its yearly root canal” during yesterday’s press conference and that’s exactly how it turned out. The Cats gave up an early lead with four minutes left in the first half and South Carolina never looked back, rolling on to win, 68-59.

UK falls to 13-3 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. The next game will be in Memorial Coliseum on Sunday against Missouri. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. and you’re invited.

They’ll bounce back. Go Hoops.

Overated, coach has 6-7 all-americans on the team, mature, can’t do anything with them. He will never get to the final four, time for a change!

No wonder they lost. Renaldo Balkman is playing for the SC girls now?

Said it before, Mitchell’s plan of small ball banging down 15 footers and beyond wins a few games but not championships. If he’s going to recruit McD All Americans, get some inside power players. We need muscle. They’re steady performers, and win.

Not only that but largely the offense in the past has come from the defensive effort. Last week it was Florida and now South Carolina. The book is out now on how to beat the “40 minutes of hell” and that is to attack it with no fear. Now granted, you must have the athletes to do it, but if you do (as most the good teams in the nation do) it is not a problem. The rest of the month is tricky: Missouri, Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas, and Georgia. All of those but Alabama are sneaky teams that while on paper should not beat UK very well may.

Losing at USC is not bad, the way we lost is bad. Second half we were never in this game.

I agree that it is the “how we lost” that is most disturbing. The blue print is out and has been for several seasons on how to beat this team. We need big athletic bigs that are not afraid of contact and better offensive schemes. Dribble drive with smaller players just get the balls blocked against big athletic bigs. USC blocked a bunch of shots but yet I didn’t see adjustments being made from the bench. We have talented players. Playing “harder” is not necessarily the answer. Playing “smarter” is the key.
