UK Hoops announces promotion of Amy Tilley

Coach Mitchell has made some fast changes to his staff in the post season, but he isn’t finished yet. Last week, UK announced the hire of Bucknell University’s Christian Stefanopoulos. Today, they announced that Amy Tilley has been promoted to the assistant athletics director for women’s basketball for the UK Hoops program.

Tilley has been with UK Hoops for six years, including three years of work as the director of basketball relations and recruiting. This past year at mid-season Tilley took over the duties of the assistant athletic director position after the person in the position left.

Coach Mitchell said he was very happy with the promotion.

“Amy stepped into this role under difficult circumstances in the middle of this season and she just did an incredible job,” Mitchell said. “She is motivated and passionate about Kentucky and she is involved in the development of this program on so many levels. She invests so much time and thought into making our program better each day and I can’t think of anyone better to be in this role than her.”

The firing of House (experienced WNBA assistant) and Pillow without a replacement upgrade reeks of panic and desperation by Mitchell. Why the panic? At the time of their firing it was the worst kept secret is women’s basketball that the top recruit in this years class, A’ja Wilson, was headed to South Carolina and Diamond DeShields, freshman player of the year at UNC, is transferring to Tennessee. Those two additions are going to firmly plant SC and UT at the top of the conference for the next 4 years allowing SC to replace UK as the challenger to UT.

Mitchell may have reached the plateau at UK last year. He had O’Neil, Epps, Harper along with Mcdonalds 5 star all american transfers stallworth and walker. The recruits to replace those two senior post players are talent downgrades leaving UK weak in the post in a conference with phenomenal post players at sc, Tennessee, and Texas A&M
