It has been over a year (I looked it up) since UK fans wanted afternoon notes here on KSR, so let’s bring back a blast from the past because what else is there to do?
Let’s see if I still remember how to do this…
— Tiger King. Watch it.
— Only 90 minutes until Andy at 5. The last two updates have given us a coronavirus party and a patient who potentially brought it back from spring break, so let’s hope for much less stupidity in today’s news. I’m not sure Andy can remain calm if we do any more dumb stuff and I can’t help but think Kenneth is in the line of fire if Andy snaps on someone. So please, be a good neighbor.
— Link of the Day: If you’ve read everything on KSR and now you’re looking for a good internet read somewhere else, I recommend “The Real Miami” by Udonis Haslem. Yes, that Udonis Haslem. He gave his thoughts on the coronavirus and how it’s touched his city, and if I were a kid who just got back from spring break in Miami, I would be deleting every picture or piece of evidence I was there. “F*** your spring break,” is a direct quote from the article, to give you a little teaser of his thoughts.
— Have you purchased Mitch, Please! yet? If not, consider buying it today as it climbs the Amazon charts. At last check it had just reached No. 1 on the new releases list and was up at No. 20 overall. Matt asked that we thank everyone on his behalf for their support and he is excited for everyone to read it.
— In other Matt Jones news, as many of you now know via the radio show and Twitter, his father is currently hospitalized with a non-coronavirus medical issue and he and his mom aren’t allowed in the hospital. Matt is going to take some time away from the show.
My dad is currently in the hospital with a serious medical issue. It isn’t related to Coronavirus. However due to the virus, my mom and I aren’t allowed to visit him
It’s an extremely difficult situation. Please stay home and socially distant, if not for you, for everyone else
— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) March 26, 2020
Our thoughts are with Matt’s dad and the family, and all of the kind messages you’ve sent have meant a lot to them.
— One more quick thank you while we’re thanking you: HUGE shout out to everyone who has been ordering from our curbside and delivery menus at KSBar and Grille. The month of March is the very reason we opened a bar in the first place, so every order we can serve right now means a lot to us as small business owners, but most of all it matters to KSBar’s kick-ass employees who aren’t seeing the dine-in guests and basketball watch parties they rely on. By ordering takeout, you’re keeping the machine going so they stay employed. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
— There is a KSR Pregame Show tomorrow. Crazy, right? Ryan Lemond and I will get you ready for the radio replay of Kentucky and Duke in the 1978 NCAA Tournament championship. We’ll go live (like actually live to preview a game played before I was born) at 6 p.m. ET on WLAP in Lexington or WHAS in Louisville. Tune in for the absurdity.
— Tonight, hopefully, I will share a post I’ve spent almost ten hours working on. It may be the most important thing I’ve ever written. Stay tuned all you crazy cats and kittens.
— Tomorrow, we will hear from Mark Stoops as he follows Coach Cal’s footsteps to a Zoom press conference. Unfortunately the live stream will only be open to credentialed media, but we will share the entire video and all of the news stories that come with it tomorrow afternoon. Get excited, football fans. It’s the only spring football we get.
We’ll end with some fundraisers we’d like to pass along:
— Last week some students from the University of Kentucky were severely injured in an accident involving a drunk driver down in Panama City. The students were on a rented golf cart that was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado driven by someone under the influence, and three of the involved families have set up GoFundMe pages to help with travel and medical bills as their daughters fight for their lives. Those can be found below:
— Also, our good friend and former UK footballer Moncell “Turtle” Allen is out of work thanks to the coronavirus, while recovering from having the actual coronavirus, and he is selling ‘Tin Roof: A BBN Joint’ t-shirts to make ends meet. It’s a pretty cool tee for the Kentucky fans who find the nearest Tin Roof when the Cats are on the road, which is a lot of you. They can be found on Tin Roof’s site here.
That’ll do it for now. Stay safe out there.
