UK Fans/Friends of the Day want some jet-lagged thoughts

Good afternoon, friends…or is it night? After spending eight days in Greece and probably three full days traveling, my body has no idea what’s going on; however, with KSR under attack and Johnny Juzang about to announce his decision, there is no rest for the jet lagged.

For those that care, I’ll share more from my trip once the fog in my brain clears, but for now, here are some quick thoughts as I scramble to catch up on everything that happened while I was gone.

What a difference a few weeks makes

Before I left, it already looked like the Cats were in the driver’s seat for Johnny Juzang, the four-star wing who announces tonight at 7 p.m. ET. Now, it seems almost certain he’ll join next year’s roster. Once Jemarl Baker announced he was transferring, shooting became a primary concern for next season, but Juzang should help full that void alongside Tyrese Maxey and Immanuel Quickley.

More surprising to me are the rumblings Kentucky’s trending for Jaden McDaniels. The five-star power forward has been super quiet with his recruitment so far, so the fact that Evan Daniels feels confident enough to predict he’s coming to Lexington is huge. Prior to this week, all signs pointed towards McDaniels staying home and going to Washington, but if Calipari can land both him and Juzang, his luck with West Coast prospects has definitely changed. Add in Kerry Blackshear Jr. and Nick Richards and/or EJ Montgomery should they decide to return to Kentucky and the Cats will once again have a pretty impressive roster.

So, who did we piss off?

I did my best to stay off Twitter and the site while I was gone, but the KSR cyber attacks pulled me right back in. Armed with only an iPhone and spotty wifi, I felt incredibly helpless abroad, so shoutout to everyone here for doing their best to keep the site afloat. We’ve pissed some people off over the years, but for someone to coordinate a group of French hackers to take us down is the exact type of ridiculousness I’ve come to expect in this line of work. They tried again this morning, but I’m locked in like Arya Stark.

Calipari’s vacation mustache is…something

The picture of John Calipari and Matthew Mitchell in Capri is great for many reasons, but the biggest is the Mario mustache Cal’s sprouting. Put a suit on him with a rose in the lapel and he’s officially Don Corleone.

Cal’s sunset view wasn’t too shabby either:

Perfect ending to a great day in Capri, Italy.

Don’t forget about UK Softball

After taking care of Ole Miss this morning, Abbey Cheek and the Hittin’ Kittens take on No. 1 Alabama at 7 p.m. for a spot in the SEC Championship. It will be televised live on ESPN2. Hopefully Cheek and Autumn Humes will once again have reason to don their tiaras for the postgame interviews:

UK Baseball also takes on South Carolina in Columbia at 7 p.m. on the SEC Network.

That’ll do for now. Juzang announces at 7 p.m. ET. If you need me before then, I’ll be here waiting for the hackers and catching up with my DVR.

We flew from Toronto and it was long. Once you’re up high enough, it’s fine but takeoff/landing was shaky in Toronto because of storms. Get ready to watch lots of movies!
