The University of Kentucky baseball team is now 15-4 (3-1 SEC) after an extra-innings win at Auburn on Friday night, 8-6.
A deep sac-fly from Reuben Church got the ‘Cats on the board first in the second inning, making it a 1-0 ball game. Auburn struck back quickly though, thanks to a home run from Tyler Miller to tie the match.

Church came up big again in the fourth, doubling to right field to score T.J. Collett and give the ‘Cats a 2-1 lead. Shortly after, the game was put on pause for an hour and a half due to severe weather in the area.
After the break, Auburn came back to tie the game in the seventh, but the Wildcat offense found a spark in the top of the eighth. John Rhodes started things off with a homer to left field, making it 3-2. A homer from Church added three more runs, putting the ‘Cats up 6-2.

Sophomore Cole Stupp started on the mound for Kentucky and pitched all the way through the seventh inning. Despite the awkward rain delay, Stupp put on an impressive showing for the Auburn crowd. He ended with five strikeouts and only eight hits in 102 pitches.
The ninth inning brought major pitching problems for Kentucky. The ‘Cats started the inning with Holt Jones, but brought Sean Harney in after Jones gave up a run. Harney leads the SEC in saves, but struggled to find the strike zone tonight – and the Tigers took advantage. Harney gave up two runs, cutting the Kentucky lead to 6-5. Daniel Harper took the mound next. Harper gave up the tying run but kept Kentucky’s chances alive heading to extra innings.
The Wildcats found more offensive success in the top of the 10th, starting off with a RBI double from Chase Estep to score Zeke Lewis. Estep went on to score himself, giving the ‘Cats an 8-6 lead. Harper and the Wildcat defense held strong in the 10th to seal the deal.
The ‘Cats will look to take the series tomorrow. First pitch from Auburn is scheduled for 7 p.m.
