Tyrese Maxey sets announcement date

We thought five-star point guard Tyrese Maxey would announce his college decision this week, but it looks like we’re going to have to wait just a little while longer. Maxey just tweeted that he will announce on Wednesday, May 9, which is presumably also when he’ll let us know if he’s moving up to the 2018 class. He’s down to Kentucky, Michigan State, Texas, Michigan, and Oklahoma State.

Maxey is one of several guards in the 2019 class that’s considering reclassifying along with current UK commit Ashton Hagans and Jalen Lecque. Kentucky’s the big favorite after a strong push from John Calipari in recent weeks, and Maxey all but let the cat out of the bag when he said he and Hagans already call themselves “the duo.” Hagans’ reclassification status is still up in the air (we should know in July), but Maxey says he’s prepared to make the jump to play college ball this fall.

Come on down and join the party, Tyrese. Also, thank you for not announcing on Derby Day.

I doubt Maxey would announce a reclassification this early. I feel confident he is UK bound, but would caution against assuming the reclassification thing will get cleared up right away. In a recent interview, he said he would need to take a couple of summer classes before he could reclassify.

Hope we get him; but, wouldn’t mind saving a couple of guards for next year.
Michigan and Michigan State…that’s odd. Don’t think he would like Mishitigan weather.
