Tyler Ulis talks about his announcement

Tyler Ulis is expected to commit to Kentucky tonight at 8:20 p.m. ET. We’ll have full coverage on the site, and to get you ready, check out this video interview and set of highlights from last night via Iowa Elites.

Ulis says that he hopes he can play with Devin Booker at the next level, along with Jahlil Okafor. Me too. You all would look great in Kentucky blue.

Here’s the thing abut this kid. Cal likes big, strong, score-at-the-rim point guards. I like guys who are flawless ball handlers who distribute with ease. That’s this kid. I’m not bothered at all by his size, we’ll have other scorers. Guys like this make your team feel more cohesive.

BTW, anyone else notice the hidden text on the KSR home page, click and drag your mouse (like you were highlighting text) above the upper right-hand corner of the top ad banner. You’ll see the magic text “Back to 1995 KSR” appear. Odd. It’s not a link.

#3 – Clearly you have been hitting the Templeton Rye a little early today. The reason people in Iowa City drink so much is because there isn’t a cliff high enough for them to jump off of and end it all!

Tyler- Post the video of Jones vs. Ulis where Ulis dominates with 22 & 17 so maybe it’ll silence some of these critics…

#3 If he indeed does have any interest in playing w/ Okafor or Booker he most certainly goes to Iowa!!! (sarcasm)

Anyone who doesn’t want this kid at UK is an absolute idiot. He is a TRUE point guard and will get he other players who are here to get buckets great looks!! Even though he may not be depended on to score that much the kid can still get buckets when he wants to.. he may honestly handle the rock better than any PG Cal has had here.. I can’t wait til he proves all the haters aka bandwagon fans wrong, because believe me when I say this, he most certainty will!

He said his fav player is Chris Paul. He seems to model his game after him too. Undersized but uses a variety of moves and fakes to finish, plus loves to distribute first. I’ll take him. Cal knows what he’s doing.

This young man will exceed all expectations both on and off the court. His parents should be very proud of him as will all the BBN if he chooses to be a Cat and to honor us with his presence. Plus He’s gonna look real good in BLUE.

Just to clarify, “Come on down, Spud” is a compliment to Tyler.
If he’s nearly as good as Spud, Mugsy or the best smaller guards, we’ll all be thrilled to have him.
We don’t have many viable options in this class and, unlike Harrow, he seems to understand the spotlight and the responsibility.
I like his game, he seems like a terrific person as well as a player and I think we’ll be fortunate if we can get him on board.
It will be very interesting to have a true “distribute first” PG in the DDMO.
The kid has a great handle and he can dish the rock.
As I said, “Come on down”.

Ridge Runner… The guy on the Iowa site is obviously misinformed. And if you believe that then you are too.

Hearing that Iowa started making contact with a JUCO PG out of Wyoming last night after Ulis told Fran “Thanks but no thanks”. (A huge part of me is ashamed that I would even be talking about Iowa competing with UK on the basketball recruiting trail in the first place……..slowly walks away in shame)

Ulis needs to step up and start recruiting Okafur. Concede nothing. Putting that twerp-ass Dukie, Jones, in his place starts now.

Tyler Ulis is a good ball player and an even better young man. Kid has a great attitude. It’s not like he just stopped growing one day…he’s been playing as the smallest guy on the court his whole life. He is used to it.

Obviously we can’t know anything until he’s actually playing here, but I agree with those who are excited about Tyler Ulis. Cal has had some great teams, but offensive stagnation has been at times a nagging characteristic of some of these teams….and that ultimately goes back to the point guard. I welcome the idea of a guy who is almost exclusively focused on running the offense and getting others involved. We have not had one guy thus far under Cal who is solely focused on that….and at many points it has been a glaring deficiency only overcome by such immense total talent. I’m excited about this kid…….

Please don’t compare to Harrow. 3 things to mention he seems to have that Harrow didnt was leadership mentality, 3 point shot and GREAT passing ability!

That looks like some really tough competition. Ryan harrows mix tapes are at least against better competition. But at least we will have a 4 year point guard.

James-watch his tape against Tyus Jones.

You get this guy a few shooters on the wings, and he’s going to be a good guy to have on the team. He can also dribble well through a zone, and is a respectable shooter. Will be fun. Can’t wait until this season starts though.

Everyone keeps talking about the game Ulis had vs Tyus Jones — he matches up well with him b/c Tyus is only 6’2″. I wonder how he would match up with Mudiay or a bigger PG. Jones is ranked in the top-5 for a reason. I know Ulis will be good eventually but to ask him to come in and start at PG his freshman year is stretching it. There is a reason Cal only offered Mudiay and Jones for about 2 years… then Ulis only a month ago. Im not trying to be negative but everyone saying Ulis > Jones is stupid.

Jordan… This was THEBEST when they played… And Ulis chewed him up and spit him out. So yes, as far as I am concerned, I am a don’t tell me, show me kind of guy, and Ulis took Tyus to the woodshed. Btw even if Tyus is 6’2…. Which he isn’t, that would be Ulis gave up 5 or 6 inches and Still got the best of him….. So you kinda prove the point you are trying to make wrong….. Btw if Tyus Jones is 6’2… a 7 footer
