RIP Tom Petty, one the few great things out of Gainsville, Fl.

been listening to the greatest hits on loop all morning.

Yeah, I was listening to Wildflowers on the drive in. Very sad. I am getting tired of having to do tributes to all of the great musicians we keep losing. Now I am regretting missing the concert he did recently with Joe Walsh.

Agree with Matt about Wildflowers – great album, and some songs you don’t hear a lot on the radio. Lots of good memories of running the boat all over Lake Cumberland listening to that album back in the 90’s.

    • A rock icon man. I haven’t heard Wildflowers except for what was on the radio, but he was great. I do have his greatest hits.

He was a dude who would probably be a great guy to sit down and have a beer with – or maybe “roll another joint” – his preference. πŸ™‚

“Cabin Down Below” was a great song and a favorite of mine back in the day. And “Honeybee” might be one of his hardest rocking, and creepiest, songs.

Tom Petty was an icon. His music was great, and he seemed like a good dude. He will be missed.

Petty was and still is my fav, saw him in concert 4 times….all great performances. He stood up to the record companies when they raised record prices.

    • Will do RCF. I never heard any of his full albums, so I’ll have to look it up on the YooToob and see if it’s there.

Cal don’t play zone…which I agree with; but, I would like to see a 1-2-2 zone press, a man-to-man press is worthless. JV would have been amazing on the point, hoping he gets back soon.

  3. Realme
    10:21 am October 3, 2017 Permalink

“I can speak my mins and I’m going to” is the opposite of what Cal said. He did mention meeting with politicians on both sides, but not all crazy defiant like Matt makes it sound. He actually said he has political opinions, but he keeps them to himself because it’s not his place to tell people what they should think. If only more famous people felt that way.

    • runningunnin.454
      10:30 am October 3, 2017 Permalink

I was really impressed when Cal attended the Pope’s address to Congress; he was sitting behind Newt Gingrich, and among Senators and political figures…still don’t know how he got into that.

    • Kernel Sanders
      10:58 am October 3, 2017 Permalink

Also, Cal is no dummy. He knows that he coaches in a red state. Look what happened when he presented a jersey to Obama….he caught some major flak. I think he just realizes that in his current position, there is no upside to alienating fans in about 115 of 120 Kentucky counties if he really expressed his views.

The guy that they are thinking about bringing in, Vince Tyra, was in my HS graduating class. From everything I know about him, he is a quality guy, and he comes from a sports background. He played baseball for UK back in the 80’s. I think UofL would be wise to go in this direction.

    • runningunnin.454

You think they will hire a quality guy? Where’s the fun in that?

    • RealCatsFan
      11:02 am October 3, 2017 Permalink

Yeah, the thought of the evil triumvirate – Jurich – Pitino – Petrino – going away takes some of the fun out of the rivalry. Just won’t be the same making fun of them.

  5. My comment from the thread about the John Higgins award and tribute video:

    A tribute video? Why?

β€œHey John, I really like the way you waved your arms on that one call! Oh, and the silky smooth way you pointed the other way on that turnover? BRILLIANT!”

Same. Though we’ll have to steal him from some other power 5 program by that point.

I would take Brohm from Purdue over Brown but both are ok.

    • RealCatsFan
      10:59 am October 3, 2017 Permalink

Rick, I agree that Brohm probably has it over Brown, at least right now. But I think Brohm is a UofL guy through and through. Not saying he would not come to UK – in fact, the thought of stealing one of their coaching golden boys would be delicious! Wouldn’t be shocked to see Brohm get some consideration for the LSU job.

    • runningunnin.454
      11:00 am October 3, 2017 Permalink

I would rather have Brown…a UK guy over a UL guy.

    • RealCatsFan
      11:00 am October 3, 2017 Permalink

Hate to say it, but worst case scenario would be for Petrino to jump to LSU or UT and for UofL to end up with Brohm.

    • J-Dub421
      11:06 am October 3, 2017 Permalink

Of course John Higgins wants to call a UK game. He loves the attention. He wants us to boo him. I bet he would want a Rupp Arena game just so that he gets booed and more attention

    • runningunnin.454

Now I want to try it.

    • Horehound is terrible. When I was a kid I thought “No wonder it tastes so bad. It’s a brown hard candy. It should only be brown if it’s a cough drop.” Then recently I tasted Ricola for the first time. I didn’t like it and I thought “It tastes like it’s got horehound in it”. I checked the ingredients. Yup.

Tom said he’d write songs, and George Harrison would write songs, and Bob Dylan would write songs, and then they’d all kind of look at each other and say, “That’s a really good song, let’s let Roy (Orbison) sing it!” Roy did have a really great voice.
