Trey Lyles vs. UK targets coming up on ESPN (Arsenal Tech-Huntington Prep Game Thread)

Kentucky basketball signee Trey Lyles and his Arsenal Tech High School team will tip off against Huntington Prep at 9:30 p.m. tonight on ESPN. The two teams met earlier this month at the Marshall County Hoop Fest, with Tech getting the 54-51 win. Lyles scored 22 points in the victory.

Huntington Prep’s roster features UK target¬†Montaque Gill-Caesar and point guard Josh Perkins, who committed to Gonzaga in August after saying he won’t wait for an offer from John Calipari and Kentucky. UK¬†has also shown interest in junior power forward Thomas Bryant and sophomore small forward Miles Bridges. Bridges calls Kentucky his “dream school.”

Should be a goodin’. Discuss the game below.

Why is 6’10 trey lyles just sitting on the wing doing nothing? The coaching is atrocious.

You sycophants are doing it again. Lyles is lazy no hustle player like we have now. Never crashes board. Ole’ defense. Im sure you will try to tell us hes a stone cold killer too. This child worship is out if control.

Dan Dakich was wrong. YOU are the best judge of high school talent in the business. Quit your day job immediately.

HP Junior Thomas Bryant is eating Trey Lyles lunch in the paint. We better hope Dakari stays. Lyles is very talented, but like Towns, he is more of an inside out threat and playmaker rather than a true post player.

If u have kept up with recruiting u would know that most have said he may struggle at the college leave and is not a one and done which none of the 2014 class is.

You all watchin same game. He drove to hoop and missed yet got back to challenge the Prep fast break, that was all hustle. Kid has great knowledge of game and is a team player with nice passing skills. So he does not shoot every time he touches the ball people say he is lazy, this years UK team could use a player like him on it instead of the me team we have now. He has made some great touch passes and plays one play ahead quite often. Maybe some real bad news, Lyles just went down holding his calf area.

An observation: #24 for huntington Thomas Bryant towers over Trey Lyles. Bryant is listed at 6’9.

I fail to see how Bryant schooled Trey… HP played Zone for 3 quarters and treys stupid coach had him on the wing….yall say he didn’t crash the boards? He almost had 3 crazy put back jams…He crashed after every shot and almost always still got back on defense. Also, trey was open at least 10-15 times and his teammates wanted to jack 3’s instead….Some of yall aren’t watching the same guy I watched…He didn’t hustle? In a key moment he laid out on the floor for a lose ball and called time out…what do you call that? His passing ability is crazy good…had at least 5 or 6 GREAT passes…yall need to open your eyes.

Real talk called lyles 6’10. There is no way he’s that tall. He’s shorter than 6’9 bryant.

Turns out that Lyles is actually 5’11” in his stocking feet. He has been overcompensating pretty well don’t you think?

So why do you believe Bryant’s height? You might as well say there’s no way Bryant is that short. He’s taller than Lyles!

Gutless jerks on this comment section and every comment section on this site. Hide behind you computer screen finding fault in kids that play for our team or will play for our team. It is beyond pitiful. Posters who type this kind of criticism have never achieved any greatness in their lives, never played any sport at an elite level, never been the best at their job… Just sad. You would never have the guts to say these things to a person’s face. And the worst part is that the sad posters will inflate their self worth when UK wins a title, or inflate their self worth when UK looses a game by criticizing kids. The people that constantly post negative things really don’t deserve to be UK fans.

Point being….They aren’t. Either they’re line bearded azzwipes or beer guzzling Hosers fans who love coming in here and making Jones rich on every click they make. Didn’t get to see much of the game but what I did see was Lyles making some good plays. But let them bitch and moan, KSR isn’t A n E network where they’ll get banned for having an opinion. Dumbasses! GO CATS!

Appeared Lyles has excellent vision, very good reaction time and good (not great) running speed. He made some excellent college level passes that were also assists and had himself in correct position on defense most of the night, But he was not aggressive enough on either defense or offense, He is not 6’10”, maybe 6’9″ at best. He was not the best player in the game, his own teammate, point guard C.J. Walker, a vertically challenged sophomore, made some wow plays for AT and controlled the ball and the game well. Jaquan Lyle (28pts) was the star for HP and IMO the game. However, can’t help but notice that the last time they played (Dec 07) it was quite a different story with Trey Lyles being the high scorer with 22 & 7. Hard to judge talent watching one HS game. All in all I would have to say Trey was not the standout all Kentucky fans were lusting to see, but he will be a valued addition to the team next year. And, despite all the comments regarding his poor offensive production the kid emerged with a double double of 12 & 13 with 5 assists! I think a fair take on last night’s game is that Trey is good right now and has a huge upside – but he was not the alpha male player we wanted to see.

Didn’t think either team looked particularly good. It’s just a lower level of basketball. Liked Lyles’ passing. Did not like his defense. Wilted on contact, trying not to foul. Loved the little point guard, No. 11. He fears no one. JaQuan Lyle began to play some later in the game. Gill-Ceasar was okay, I guess. They’re all so raw. That’s basically what Cal is trying to find: diamonds in the rough.

I’m really happy we have Lyles. I’ll take all the Top 10 players Cal can land. You wait: next year’s class is going to surprise on the upside. They’re all very skilled.

    Great observation Dennis,
Have watched Trey since he was a frosh and here is what most don’t know. He is maturing at a rapid rate…even from last year, where he would sulk and sometimes just shut down. If you were at the game last night you would notice his passion for the game as he went to the floor for loose balls and crashed the boards (sometimes over the back). Here is what separates him; His ability to handle the ball and make moves on the interior and exterior and a range of shots. He is probably 6’9″ or a little better, but will be a BALL HANDLER at the next level capable of creating his own shot. How rare is that? As in IU fan, love the rivalry with KY but not looking forward to what he is going to do for the program. You guys want a treat, show up on January 4th when Tech plays Park Tudor (Trevon Bluiett), who is also crossing the state line.
