Rick Pitino has returned to Kentucky to recruit one of the Commonwealth’s best basketball players.
Trey James, a 6-foot-10 Martin County center, committed to play college basketball at Iona Friday afternoon. Martin County head coach Jason James told the Herald-Leader the younger James made the decision during a phone call with Pitino.
Last season James broke the state of Kentucky’s shot-block record with more than 717. His single-game record of SEVENTEEN BLOCKS is absolutely stupid. James’ play helped propel the school formerly known as Sheldon Clark to a 15th Region title in March.
James, a three-star prospect ranked as the No. 25 center in the nation according to the 247 Sports Composite, was previously committed to Wake Forest. He reopened his recruitment following Danny Manning’s departure. He’s the first player recruited by Pitino from the state of Kentucky and the first person to join Iona’s 2021 recruiting class.
