Though UK’s 2017 Recruiting Class is already loaded with five 5-star guys, they’re looking to close it out with a few more talented prospects left on the board.

One of the final remaining elite recruits on UK’s radar? 5-star guard Trae Young out of Oklahoma.

Most believe the final list for Young is Kansas, Kentucky, and Oklahoma, but a recent tweet seems to indicate otherwise.

According to Young’s father, Oklahoma is likely not an option for his son…

The tweet has since been deleted.

The article in question criticized Young’s high school team, saying they weren’t capable of competing for the state title if things continue the way they are now. Here are just a few quotes from the story:

So, it’s unclear if the Timberwolves are going back to the state tourney. However, it’s abundantly clear they won’t sniff it if they make their home anywhere near the same time zone and zip code they found themselves in against the Pioneers late Friday night.

A state tourney team? It seems like it should be. It still has state’s most dangerous player and a supporting cast that’s plenty strong enough to get there. But not like this. Never again like this. There’s an old basketball cliche: play hard, play smart, play together. Maybe the T-Wolves could start there.

You can read the full story here.

Most recruiting experts believe Kansas is the favorite for Young right now, especially with Quade Green signing on the dotted line with Kentucky. This news likely leaves just the Wildcats and the Jayhawks for his services.

The question has to be asked… What in the world would Ray Young think of Jerry Tipton if Trae went to Kentucky?

kind of weak if this article gets him this worked up – if you play bad you deserve to be critiqued. College and pro media will eat him alive. (If your reading this papa Young please don’t be offended)

Kentucky media would eat this guy alive. His son is good but would be a cancer on the team, imo.

If they cant take journalist writing negative articles then he absolutely does not need to come to UK. You wanna play at Kentucky, you will have a target on your back from opposing teams and the media the entire time you are here. Which Is just another reason why Kentucky Isnt for everyone.

THATS a reason to not play in your state??? Not sure we want him here either then. You have to be a lot stronger than a few words that weren’t even bad to play here. Kansas will love you.

The media in Kansas apparently thinks Rock Chalk Jayhawk is clever and worth repeating so I’m guessing they aren’t very tough on players.

The Herald Leader, on the other hand has been actively trying to tear down UK basketball for decades hoping for another Pulitzer.

What was cited was nothing compared to the childishness of the Herald Leader “reporters.”

Kansas could have a big time backcourt next year if Malik Newman doesn’t go pro and they pick up Trae Young … also, could bring back Devonte Graham and/or Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk to go with Lagerald Vick … a lot of that could not happen, just saying

Without Trae Young UK won’t have a 3 point shooter, Trae is the best 3 point shooting guard in high school, UK needs him bad, he would be the leading scorer on next years team averaging 20+ points like Monk. Anyone who says we don’t need him is plain dumb! If Trae wants to play 3 years in college he will go to KU, if he wants to be a One and Done he will go to UK. Kansas has a bad record with draft picks. Ask yourself, why is Mason, Graham and Bragg still at Kansas instead of being in NBA?

Don’t need him. His dad is shopping him anyway.

We do need Young. We’re losing five guards (our entire backcourt, save Brad), and we have only three in the fold. None of them a 3-pt threat. You need more than three guards on a team. Look what happened to us with Mulder out sick and Fox injured. Can you imagine having only one guard available? We definitely need another guard, preferably one who can make 3s.
