Tracy McGrady’s News and Views

Image Via Sporting News

On May 24th, 1979 Tracy Lamar McGrady, Jr. was born.  18 years later he was the 9th pick in the 1997 NBA Draft and went on to be named to 7 All-Star teams, 7 All-NBA teams, and was a two time NBA scoring champion.  Often overlooked nowadays, T-Mac is a classic “what could have been” star.  He absolutely was a star from 2000-2007, but he was so unbelievably talented that he still always left fans wanting more.  T-Mac’s 2002-2003 season with the Orlando Magic is simply one of the best statistical seasons in NBA history:  32.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.7 steals.

As a basketball fan I hope that everyone will join me, on his 35th birthday, in celebrating the career that Tracy McGrady had.  It is one of the best kept secrets of the past 20 years in the NBA.

On to the news and views…

Julius Randle or Noah Vonleh???

Though Julius Randle continues to be considered by many as the 4th best player in the upcoming NBA Draft, teams in the lottery have been exploring other prospects.  Notably, Noah Vonleh has seen his name climbing draft boards of late.  However, Seth Davis stepped up today in support of our boy Julius Randle saying “People who rank Noah Vonleh above Julius Randle are making a mistake.”

UK Baseball Falls to Florida

After defeating three straight ranked opponents to earn a spot in the SEC Tournament semi-finals, the Bat Cats lost to the Gators 6-5.  The Wildcats finished the regular season 35-23.

UK Softball Loses to UCLA

The Wildcats dropped Game 1 of the 3-game NCAA Super Regional series 6-4 this evening.  Kentucky took a 4-2 advantage into the bottom of the 6th inning, but a 4-run outburst by the Bruins allowed them to steal Game 1 away from the ‘Cats.

UK returns to the field tomorrow in a do-or-die game at noon, and then the “if necessary” Game 3 will be at 3.

It was a pretty slow news day, so that is all I have for today.

Hopefully your Memorial Day weekend is going well! Mine is off to a great start as I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Hanover College today (contact me on Twitter for my home address so you can send me money).

I found watching the UK Softball game on ESPNU tonight to be entertaining. It was fun to watch UK play against a college softball dynasty.
I also heard the announcers were very complimentary of UK’s softball stadium from a previous visit.
They also said there were a lot of UK fans wearing blue shirts in the crowd. Big Blue Nation continues to Rock!

It may have been a slow news day, but you could have more than that had you actually written something more than two sentences about each of the events. Just saying.

A lot depends on Randles workouts with individual teams, some of which may well be scheduled with Vonleh…if he slakes I wouldn’t be surprised to see him slip into double digits in the draft

stupid format in sec baseball . double elimination but we win 3 straight including florida—we lose to florida in semis and they go to chmpshp. to be fair uk/fl should have been best 2 of 3. life goes on.

Yea that format is dumb. The 2 remaining losers should have played, then the two remaining winners. Then the losers bracket doesn’t get back up to the winners until the final. At which point they must beat the other team twice.

“Happy Birthday, TMac! You were once a star, but you didn’t live up to your potential. Now your career is overlooked by most. Too bad, because you really could have been somebody. Happy Birthday!”

Geez, Brandon. You’re not understanding the whole “happy birthday” thing, are you.

WHAT has happened to the ranking of Randle???????? How has he fallen from N0.5 to the D league? I am dumbfounded about all this talk about him dropping into the second round etc…….He averaged a double double and was double and tripled teamed every time he received the ball….what gives with this sudden spiral downhill for him???????????????
