Four-star linebacker Darrin Kirkland visited UK’s campus this past weekend, and in an interview with Rivals’ Josh Helmholdt, said he sees a lot of opportunity in Lexington. Kirkland, 6’2″, 228 lbs, is considered the 5th best inside linebacker and 194th player overall in the 2015 class by 247 Sports Composite. He’s got the Cats in his top ten, and said that when he told them he and his father were visiting, the staff “designed a whole day” around him.
“I just wanted to find out what is so great about it and I walked away learning that they are a program well on the rise,” Kirkland said. “I have a great opportunity down there and I’m really excited about it. I was very glad I put them in the top 10.”
The rest of Kirkland’s top ten? Ole Miss, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin. The Indianapolis native’s Crystal Ball sits at 56% Michigan, 24% Tennessee, 16% Penn State, and 4% Ohio State. But, as we’ve learned, don’t count out Stoops just yet.
