Tommy Stevens named starter at Mississippi State

Former Penn Hold This L State quarterback Tommy Stevens considered the University of Kentucky for his graduate transfer season of college football. He even took a visit to Lexington back in May, but ultimately decided to pursue other options outside of being Terry Wilson’s backup. He ended up at Mississippi State.

Today, Joe Moorhead announced Stevens won the QB battle in the Bulldogs’ fall camp. Morehead said, “The decision making was going to come down to who could create explosive plays, who could minimize turnovers and who could throw the ball with the best accuracy in a consistent manner. Tommy jumped out of the gates strong at the beginning of camp closing into the first scrimmage.”

The former Troy University star beat out Keytaon Thompson for Nick Fitzgerald’s old job, which means he will get another close look at Kentucky football when the Wildcats travel to Starkville on Sept. 21 (barring any screw-ups that cost him his starting job).

Yeah, I’d say Thompson will be starting by the time we play them. Just my guess of course, but seeing Thompson is few times when he came in some games last year, I thought he looked pretty good. Who knows though, maybe Stevens is balling out and fits what they want to do better.

To actually get a starting QB position in the SEC is something pretty special. I wish all these young men the very best, and hope everyone playing College Football this year, a great year and stay injury free. Now when they play Kentucky, I still want them to stay healthy, but I sure want them to play as bad as they possibly can. Hehe. Go Cats. KENTUCKY—44, TOLEDO—24!

Wasn’t Stevens the guy who came in and led the Penn State comeback when their starter got hurt? Granted, I know the CATS basically quit playing and started celebrating midway through the third quarter, but I thought that kid looked pretty good. We were fortunate to come away with the win after blowing that big lead.

No Stevens didn’t come in… Another QB did… Most of the come back was when the quarterback came back from injury as I remember.. the starter

No. He did not travel with Penn State to the bowl game. Penn States backup barely played infact. He went 0/2 and they put the starter McSwoley right back in.

Stevens didn’t go to Troy. That was our backup Sawyer Smith.
