I guess nobody will like these new uniforms like the logo?

Love that logo of you all, I will have to get that on a shirt! Need to check out that pizza place maybe this weekend, or tonight!

Have to think we turn in the right direction tomorrow…if only because any other thought is too painful. Remain hopefully optimistic for the remainder of the season.

    • CATandMONKEY, here is the “Awaiting…” comment from yesterday (please post, please post!):

Thistle & Shamrock is the BEST! I’ve been to Scotland on mission trips and Fiona Ritchie’s accent is AWESOME!
Okay, so no one else here cares, but there’s no side chat room like on the old AOL or MS chats. Haha!
I actually got the idea for this screen name from the person who used “PPat IS walking through that door”.
A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH on Saturdays is another really good program. Celtic Connections is okay.

Can’t believe you haven’t been moderated into oblivion! I guess everything we post on here has become, by definition, a side conversation. Fiona followed by Barren River Breakdown is a great Saturday listen.
Hope I can cross the pond someday to visit the homeland.
Fantastic that you have donated your time and talents for those trips.
Hope you are able to make the trek again soon.

  3. Hopefully the new unis won’t be anything horrid like the Michigan State bball unis. Go Cats!

Beating Florida is always gratifying, regardless of how good they are but nothing tops 2003. Chomp the MF reptiles.

I’m pretty sure we can beat anybody at home. But the gators have proven to be a pretty tough team. i have to wonder if that is instilled from their new coach or leftover juice from Billy D

Would be nice if the new guy can pick up where billy left off and keep Florida relevant.

    • CATandMONKEY

      …just not too relevant.
Please do not allow Ryan to predict a win for tomorrow.

really i just want to see sec teams compete more and make tournament runs. we get a lot of crap for playing a weak conference when really our conference isn’t THAT bad. we have a lot of above average teams and not many great teams.

    • CATandMONKEY
      10:31 am February 5, 2016 Permalink

The SEC didn’t win the overall challenge against the Big 12 but there were several great wins and a great almost win. I have to think that LSU, Florida Texas A&M and Arkansas could make noise consistently next season.

    • ukjaybrat
      10:33 am February 5, 2016 Permalink

i agree those are all solid well coached (except lsu har har) teams. but unless they get quality wins outside of the conference, they won’t get in the tournament to make that noise.

    • CATandMONKEY
      10:40 am February 5, 2016 Permalink

Three of those teams plus UK made good showings last weekend but I agree a win out of conference is really what counts…and I could not agree more about the LSU coaching. Sometimes that situation borders on the whimsical.

      11:09 am February 5, 2016 Permalink

That has always been my biggest gripe with the SEC. These “football schools” often play lackluster against OOC competition, and often lay an egg against teams they should beat in the early part of the season. But when UK comes to visit, they become other-worldly, and play like the Chicago Bulls back when Jordan walked the court. Why the hell can’t they bring an effort like that against teams other than UK? Pizzes me off!

We are in a no win situation with no real rim protectors in the paint. If our guards get up on their guy they get beat off the dribble and there is no one to help out effectively. If they play off their man, they sting us for 3-pointers.

Only real solution would be zone, IMO, but that opens us up once again for good outside shooters and probably makes it even tougher to get rebounds. Quite a quandary.

You’re preaching to the choir, brother. You don’t have to convince ME, I love Cal. But read the posts, man. Usually if anybody dares to disagree with Cal or question something he does that person is immediately labeled an idiot troll. Where’s the tolerance of others’ opinions? Bashing, saying that Cal can’t coach, those people deserve to be criticized on here and probably ARE trolls from other teams. Any objective person knows Cal doesn’t just roll out the basketballs. But at least respect others’ reasonable opinions without immediately labeling them a “troll” if you disagree with them.

As you can see from the earlier responses, here on the show thread we’re less likely to be looking to pick a fight, and more interested in discussing things. Others do tend to go overboard with the name calling, but hang out here with us and it’s much more tolerant. Unless someone brings up politics. 🙂

Why is it that when anybody dares question Cal or, heaven forbid, criticize him, you get deemed a Louisville troll and if you’re on a call Matt Jones insults and shouts over you and “appreciates” the call as you’re cut off? I love Cal but I don’t think he’s perfect by any means. Jeez, can’t we agree to disagree without being disagreeable?

    • ukjaybrat
      10:30 am February 5, 2016 Permalink

There’s a difference between being critical and bashing.

It’s one thing to say you disagree with some decisions he’s made, like trying to make skal the next shaq. (this is reasonable and will clearly bring up debate, but no one is going to call you a troll)

It is completely different to say he is a incapable of coaching. (this is stupid and probably mostly just louisville fans that would say this crap bc they want a new coach 80 miles east)

    • Realme
      10:33 am February 5, 2016 Permalink

I think the problem is that most of the criticisms people have of Cal are so unreasonable and or ignorant that the people voicing them embarrass the rest of the fan base. “I wish he would try some zone defense” is a reasonable topic to bring up. “He can’t coach and needs to stop the one and done” is just plain silly because it ignores the reality of the era we are in right now.

I see your point, but too many times the majority of posters on here weren’t even born when Pitino left for Boston and have no sense of history in this great program that’s earlier than Tubby’s last days.

Symphonist, you are making unfounded assumptions about other posters.

Also, Cal has taken us to 4 final fours in 5 years, one of only 3 men’s college coaches ever to do so. Cal also has the highest win % of any coach we’ve ever had at UK. Cal is the only men’s college basketball coach with a 38 win season, which he’s done 3 times (1 at Memphis and 2 at UK). Cal isn’t infallible; he’s human and makes mistakes. But, people who say Cal can’t coach and is just a recruiter are idiots.

Davis has been handicapped by his team being terrible and a lot of them being injured this year. He has no help this season. Either way, Davis and KAT are both awesome on court and off it. I’m glad we got both of them at UK, even if it was only for a season.

    • ukjaybrat

There was a guy that went back through cal’s years and put together what our teams would look like if everyone stayed 2 and 3 years. Some of them were pretty awesome.

davis would have had to stay 4 years to play with karl though…

of course it was all just speculation. some of the teams had WAY too many scholarships … just something neat to look at.
