Greetings, Sunday readers! This week has been a sort of mixed-emotions week for the BBN, with some big wins and positives, and a few losses and negatives.
Here’s a little recap, with a preview of this coming week.
Positive: Basketball is back!
This week, the men’s and women’s basketball teams took the floor for the first time since March, with the men taking a win over Morehead State and the women defeating Murray State.
With their presence comes a glimpse of normalcy. However, one glance at the stands of Rupp Arena filled with cardboard cut-outs (including one of Nick Richards, which the real Nick Richards sat by) brings us back to reality.
Positive: Rhyne Howard was ranked the No. 1 player of the year by ESPN.
In a power week for women in the SEC (see: Sarah Fuller) Kentucky’s own Rhyne Howard was recognized by ESPN and ranked as the number one player going into the 2020-21 season. Big power move as UK Hoops continues to ascend and excel.
This picture gives us the power vibes previously referenced.
Positive: Even more basketball is coming!
Today, the men take on Richmond in Rupp Arena at 1:00 in their second showing of the season following a canceled Saturday game again Detroit Mercy. RIP to our hopes of seeing Brad Calipari back in a uniform in Lexington.
The women also play the Bruins of Belmont in Lexington at 4:00. Cheers to a day full of basketball!
Negative: Rhyne Howard and Tatyana Wyatt were abruptly suspended before tip-off on Wednesday for two and three games, respectively.
Interim head coach Kyra Elzy has announced that Tatyana Wyatt has been suspended three games for violation of team rules and Rhyne Howard has been suspended two games for not upholding the standards of the program. Both will begin their suspensions today.

Don’t have much to say about this one, considering we don’t have a lot of information.
However, rather interesting to have two of the team’s leaders suspended before the season-opener due to violating team rules and not upholding the standards of the program. Yikes.
Negative: Kentucky football lost to Florida.

Kentucky took a big loss to Florida in the Swamp on Saturday, with the final score coming in at 34-10. I think the lack of emotion in the Tweet above mimics the feelings of a lot of football fans at this point.
Another yikes. Not a lot to say, again.
Well, it’s 3-2 in favor of the positives, so that means it’s been a pretty good week!
Here’s to a great week, and looking at the glass half-full!
