Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Today on KSR: We will have news on Jai Lucas

Good morning, Big Blue Nation. I hope you’ve got the coffee handy because we’ve got a big day here at Kentucky Sports Radio. In just one hour, the media gets to speak with Jai Lucas for the first time since he accepted the position of special assistant to the head coach/recruiting coordinator on Kentucky’s staff. Because we’re still in COVID times, the press conference will take place on Zoom, but the KSR crew is excited nonetheless. Do you think he’ll remember us? Check the site later to find out.

While I try to find my KSR polo in the back of the closet, here’s a look at what else is happening in the UK Sports world and beyond.

A new name to watch in football camp

Eddie Gran isn’t one to dole out praise, especially during fall camp. That’s why this quote about freshman running back JuTahn McClain raised eyebrows yesterday after practice.

“The old adage is the eye in the sky doesn’t lie. He doesn’t. You watch tape everyday you look at effort. You look at straining. You look at mental errors and that you man doesn’t have ’em. I feel very comfortable putting him in the game. There’s a lot of competition in my room right now.”

Coming from someone who coached Benny Snell and Deuce McAllister, that’s pretty high praise indeed. Gran had plenty more to say about the offense and Chris Rodriguez also spoke to reporters, so be sure to check out Nick Roush’s full rundown. Or, just listen to Eddie Gran yourself and enjoy some photos from UK:

Jamal Murray’s Nuggets knocked out Donovan Mitchell’s Jazz

We’ve been treated to some incredible duels between Jamal Murray and Donovan Mitchell in the Bubble, and last night’s Game 7 did not disappoint. Murray’s Nuggets ended up winning 80-78, but it came down to the final seconds. Murray and Mitchell combined for 475 points, the most from a pair of players in a single playoff series in NBA history, and after the buzzer sounded, the former Cat went to console the former Card:

The Nuggets play the Clippers in Game 1 of the West Semifinals on Thursday, even if Murray wished he had another day off to rest:

Today, Shai, Hami, Nerlens, and the Oklahoma City Thunder have their shot to advance in Game 7 vs. the Rockets, while Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro take on the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 2 of the East Semifinals. (Bucks guard Eric Bledsoe had to sit out of Game 1 with a hamstring strain.)

  • 6:30 PM (ESPN): Miami Heat vs. Milwaukee Bucks – Game 2
    • MIA leads series 1-0
  • 9:00 PM (ESPN): OKC Thunder vs. Houston Rockets – Game 7
    • Series tied 3-3

Carole Baskin is joining “Dancing With The Stars”

Breaking news! Exotic Joe’s nemesis is headed to network primetime to join the cast of “Dancing With The Stars.”

I’m not sure what’s more surprising, Baskin joining the show or the fact that the show is still on.

KSR Dog of the Day

Lily will put a smile on your face this morning.

It’s Lewis County Day

Tune in to learn all about this county in Northeast Kentucky, home to Vanceburg and, according to Wikipedia, some of the nation’s best oak lumber.

Man, that Denver/Utah series was something. Yet it still came down to a Nugget taking a dumb 3 with the lead, allowing Utah one more good shot at the buzzer, which easily could have gone in for the win.

The Nuggets had a 19 point lead early in the 2nd half; and, then they started taking bad shots and the lead went to 10 in like two minutes.
And, don’t remember who; but, a Denver player blew an open layup that would have pushed the lead to four in the closing seconds. How does an NBA player miss a layup?

Why would an NBA player take a layup with under 8 seconds to go, possession of the ball AND a two point lead? Make them foul you.
