Good morning, friends! I hope everyone had a phenomenal Fourth of July holiday filled with plenty of grilling, sunshine, and beer.
After taking the day to keep posts focused on celebrating Jared Lorenzen’s life (along with breaking any news that popped up), we’re now back on schedule today here at KSR.
Let’s dive right in.
Las Vegas Summer League
Tyler Herro, Keldon Johnson, and Wenyen Gabriel put on a show during the Salt Lake City and Sacramento Summer Leagues, but starting today, several other former Wildcats will get their shot to impress in Vegas.
13 former Kentucky players are on 13 different Las Vegas Summer League rosters, meaning almost half of the entire league will have a BBNBA member.
Here is the entire list of former Wildcats set to participate:
- Atlanta Hawks – Reid Travis (2019)
- Boston Celtics – Aaron Harrison (2014-15)
- Chicago Bulls – Mychal Mulder (2016-17)
- Denver Nuggets – Jarred Vanderbilt (2018)
- Los Angeles Clippers – Isaac Humphries (2016-17)
- Miami Heat – Tyler Herro (2019)
- New York Knicks – Kevin Knox (2018)
- Oklahoma City Thunder – Hamidou Diallo (2017-18)
- Phoenix Suns – Derek Willis (2014-17)
- Portland Trail Blazers – Skal Labissière (2016)
- Sacramento Kings – Wenyen Gabriel (2017-18)
- San Antonio Spurs – Keldon Johnson (2019)
PJ Washington is also technically on Charlotte’s Summer League roster, though he is not expected to participate due to injury.
Today, Herro and the Miami Heat will get things started at 5:30 p.m. ET against China on ESPNU, followed by Mychal Mulder’s Chicago Bulls taking on the Los Angeles Lakers at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.
After the battle of Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett at 9:30 p.m., Keldon Johnson and the San Antonio Spurs will take on the Orlando Magic at 11:00 p.m. on NBA TV.
And finally, Derek Willis and the Phoenix Suns will take on Jarred Vanderbilt and the Denver Nuggets to close out the night at 11:30 p.m. on ESPN.
UK football target Richie Leonard makes his decision today
Richie Leonard, a three-star offensive lineman out of Cocoa, FL, will decide today between Kentucky, Florida, Florida State, Miami, and Georgia Tech.
A former Kentucky commit, Leonard is rumored to be favoring both the Wildcats and his hometown Gators, with the decision almost certainly coming down to those two schools.
Yesterday, the 6-foot-2, 320-pound prospect tweeted out the following graphic:

We’ll have coverage of the announcement today on KSR at 5:30 p.m. ET.
Jalen Johnson commits to Duke
On Thursday evening, 2020 five-star small forward and Kentucky target Jalen Johnson announced his commitment to Duke, choosing the Blue Devils over UK, Wisconsin, and Arizona.

While the 6-foot-8 forward turned heads this summer when he called Kentucky his “dream school” growing up, Duke has long been seen as the runaway favorite in Johnson’s recruitment. And then on Independence Day, he confirmed those rumors by getting the process over with and officially becoming a Blue Devil.
Kentucky will now turn to the likes of Daishen Nix, Jalen Green, and Brandon Boston Jr. to fill out the 2020-21 backcourt.
We’ll have more on what the decision means and why Kentucky isn’t worried on Pilgrim’s Insider Notes later this afternoon.
Joey Chesnut wins again
The Hot Dog King has done it again.
For the 12th consecutive year, Joey Chesnut came away victorious in Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, chowing down 71 hot dogs and buns on the Fourth of July.
Here was a quick clip of Chesnut during the home stretch:
Joey Chestnut chowed down 71 hot dogs (and their buns!) this 4th of July, winning Nathan’s Famous hot dog eating contest for the 12th time! That’s more than 20,000 calories! At least he gets $10,000. ???? pic.twitter.com/s59gtQFjo0

20,000 calories and likely being sick for several days for $10,000. Worth it? Probably.
No new KSR show today
Today, instead of live KSR, there will be another replay show as the radio crew closes out their Fourth of July festivities.
Matt Jones and the rest of the gang will be back on Monday to catch you all up on all of the latest in the world of UK Athletics.
Until then, stick around with us here at the website to keep you updated throughout the day.
