Today on KSR: Time for the SEC League Office to Throw UK a Bone

We’ve gone two days without Kentucky basketball. Tonight the Wildcats were supposed to take on Texas A&M. The Wildcats searched for a replacement opponent, but time the jig is up. John Calipari confirmed Monday night that we’ll have to wait until Saturday to see Kentucky take the court again.

Unable to find a team to play this week, it’s time for the SEC to reward its top college basketball program. South Carolina and Texas A&M each have more than a handful of postponed games to make up. They can’t play them all. The SEC should give Kentucky at least one makeup game next week as a reward for carrying the league’s water for years and years and years.

College football conferences did what they had to do to make sure the blue bloods were rewarded during the COVID plagued season. When Alabama needed two new SEC opponents, they were given Kentucky and Missouri, not exactly perennial powerhouses. When Ohio State needed to play in the B1G Championship Game, the commissioner changed the rules to make it happen.

Do the right thing, SEC. Help your basketball bread-winners by rewarding them with an easy win before the conference tournament begins in Nashville.

Louisville Plays Basketball Tonight

You would hardly know that by watching Chris Mack’s pre-Notre Dame press conference. He spent most of the time discussing his post-UK celebration/trash-talking video that was directed to Kenny Payne. Mack said the first thing he did once he saw the video went public was give John Calipari a phone call to “clear the air.” The video was amusing. It will be even more amusing after Kentucky takes down Louisville in 2021.

The Cards aren’t the only team in action tonight.

Jackson Earns POTW Honors

Isaiah Jackson has turned into a bad man. Last week he averaged 15.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks, earning SEC Freshman of the Week honors, just the second Wildcat to do so all season, following Dontaie Allen’s performance against Mississippi State. A few incredible plays stood out about the rest. Let’s run the best back one more time, shall we?

UK Baseball Season Opener

Covid delayed the start of Kentucky’s 2021 baseball season. Today the first pitch in 350 days will be thrown at Kentucky Proud Park, returning starters at all but one position this spring. They will take the diamond against Miami (Oh.) at 4 pm ET. You can listen to the action locally on 98.5 FM and watch it on SECN+.

Grant Bingham talks to KSR

Zack Geoghegan is off and running as KSR’s recruiting reporter. Yesterday he spoke with Grant Bingham, the four-star Johnson Central offensive tackle that is near the top of UK’s recruiting big board. Bingham has been in constant contact with UK’s coaching staff, particularly new offensive line coach Eric Wolford, who takes an unusual approach.

“Coach Wolford shooting Grant pictures of dinner and what he’s having for dinner,” said Johnson Central assistant Justin Arms. “It’s kind of a joke that the key to a lineman’s heart is through food.

Many believe Notre Dame is Kentucky’s top competition in the Bingham sweepstakes, but the Fighting Irish were not mentioned in talks with Geoghegan. Interesting. Read the entire update on his recruitment here.

Daft Punk Calls it Quits

You might only know them from when they stayed up all night to Get Lucky with Pharrell, but the French robots are icons in the music industry for electronica aficionados. I will not pretend to be one of those. What I can tell you is that even if it’s not your cup of tea, they made plenty of music over their 28-year careers that will get you hyped. Exhibit A:

  1. Seriously, Nick? How would an easy win help us? Cal dodged Stansbury all season; obviously, the only team he would have scheduled would have been Detroit Mercy.

I never thought I’d see the day where KY, THE Gold Standard who eats before everyone else, would ever have to beg for a bone.
