Today on KSR: The KHSAA makes a final decision on High School Football

The only high school sport currently open for business across the Commonwealth is golf. We’ll find out if the rest of the fall sports can officially begin practice next week when the KHSAA Board of Control meets this morning.

Will high school football get the green light? Tensions have risen across the board in anticipation of this meeting. JCPS superintendent Marty Pollio stated at a school board meeting earlier this week that he would prefer moving fall sports to the spring, but officials will wait until after today’s meeting to make a determination on how Louisville public schools will proceed.

On the other side of the argument, coaches at some of the state’s most prominent schools have spoken out, most notably Male’s Chris Wolfe, to urge decision makers to let kids play this fall. The Kentucky Football Coaches Association released the following data to provide evidence that playing KHSAA football is safe and prevents players from seeking alternatives elsewhere outside of the state.

We’ll stream the meeting in its entirety, beginning at 10:30 am, right here on Kentucky Sports Radio.

A Wild Night for Thom Brennaman

Baseball legend Marty Brenneman passed the baton to his son following the 2019 season. A month into his gig as the Reds’ television play-by-play broadcaster, Thom Brennaman was caught saying a homophobic slur on a hot mic during a doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals. For minutes Brennaman continued broadcasting as normal, unaware his inappropriate statement was shared over the air. Eventually, producers caught on and pulled the plug on Brennaman. He was given the opportunity to apologize before signing off, an apology that was interrupted by a play on the field.

Brennaman has been suspended indefinitely. Will he ever return to the booth?

The KSR Football Podcast is BACK

Football is happening on the field at the Joe Craft Football Training Facility, which means it’s the perfect time to get the KSR Football Podcast crew back together. Freddie Maggard was fired up he said something I never thought I’d hear. You gotta subscribe and tune in to hear Freddie let his football flag fly as he described the “perfect” schedule setup for the Wildcats.

UK Football Practice Resumes

Practice No. 2 of the preseason for the Kentucky Wildcats is scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Following the action on the field we’ll hear from Brad White and members of the UK defense. Check back in after supper to see what the Cats had to say.

The NBA Draft Lottery is Tonight

It kind of snuck up on us, but it’s here. Tonight we’ll find out when the league’s bottom feeders — and the Golden State Warriors — will be picking in this year’s NBA Draft. De’Aaron Fox will represent the Sacramento Kings at this year’s lottery, which will take place on ESPN between the Bucks-Magic and Lakers-Blazers at 8:30 pm ET.

Back 2 School: John Wall

While the Wizards are finding out where they fall in the lottery, John Wall will be zooming into business school at the University of Kentucky.

The Worst Attractions in Each State

Maybe Noah’s Ark is lame, but I refuse to hear any Holiday World blasphemy.

Shannon The Dude Begins a 50-Mile Walk

Instead of spinning records, Kentucky Sport’s Radio’s favorite rock jock is lacing up his shoes to walk 50 miles in 20 hours. If Shannon The Dude can complete the challenge in time, he’ll earn $5,000. He leaves KSBar and Grille to begin the STD Trail in his PowerSteps’ soles at 10 pm tonight.

The STD Trail just sounds like an awful trail to be on. But good luck to him.

I wonder if Shannon has a toenail fall off if Matt will carry it around in his wallet?!
