Good morning, all. I hope everyone has recovered from what turned out to be a pretty boring Super Bowl. The New England Patriots won, again. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are the greatest, again. Even the halftime show was a snoozer, with Adam Levine resorting to stripping his shirt off in an attempt to wake people up. Who thought Maroon 5 was a good idea, again?

As usual, the real entertainment came between plays. There were plenty of good Super Bowl commercials, but only three really mattered (plus The Hammer’s commercial, of course #ad). The first, of course, was Kentucky Football’s, starring Kash Daniel:

How many times can I watch this before it becomes unhealthy? Asking for a friend.

The NFL’s 100-year game commercial proved to be way better than the game itself:

Finally, the best commercial of the night reminded us that Game of Thrones is coming. Just when you braced yourself for yet another Bud Light ad, here came The Mountain to do what you’ve wanted to do to all of your friends who still say “Dilly, Dilly”:

The Mountain killing the Bud Knight? Who cares about the game, that makes Super Bowl Sunday a win in my book.

Around these parts, we’ve got a big day ahead. Let’s get to it.

We’ll find out if Kentucky cracks the top five

After a dominating win at Vanderbilt and an impressive comeback victory at Florida, the Cats made a good case to move up in the polls regardless of what the teams above them did; however, No. 5 Michigan losing to Iowa 74-59 and No. 6 Michigan State losing to Indiana 79-75 at home should help the cause. That being said, ESPN’s Jeff Borzello still kept the Wolverines and the Spartans above the Cats in his Power Rankings yesterday. Will the AP voters and Coaches flex their wisdom? I’m skeptical, but we’ll find out around noon.

Updated Team Sheets and KenPom/Sagarin Predictions

With 42 days left until Selection Sunday, I’ll bring you up to date on Kentucky’s NCAA Tournament resume and what the KenPom and Sagarin ratings are saying about how the Cats will finish out the season.

Speaking of numbers, a quick look at the SEC standings

Which Cat will win SEC Player/Freshman of the Week?

Kentucky’s freshmen have pretty much owned the SEC FOTW award this year, winning it six of the last seven weeks. This week, I believe a sophomore deserves the league’s POTW honors. Saturday’s 15-point, 12-rebound effort at Florida was PJ Washington’s third straight double-double, and without his leadership, Kentucky would probably have lost in Gainesville. Sounds like an SEC Player of the Week to me.

Two chances to hear from John Calipari

Cal will take his turn on the SEC Teleconference late this morning, meaning we’ll get to hear his thoughts on his team as he gets out of his car or is on the treadmill. Later tonight, he’ll go more in-depth and answer fans’ questions on his radio show from 6-7 p.m. ET.

One chance to hear from an assistant

If you want less Cal-speak, a mystery assistant will handle today’s media opp, along with two lucky players. Who will it be, Kenny Payne, Tony Barbee, or Joel Justus?? The anticipation must be killing you. Tune in after lunch to see what they have to say about tomorrow’s game vs. South Carolina.

Pilgrim’s Insider Notes return

Young Jack Pilgrim is back from Florida and will catch you up on the latest on Kentucky’s 2019 and 2020 recruiting, along with his takeaways from a fun weekend in Gainesville. If you missed it last night, five-star 2019 guard Anthony Edwards canceled his visit to North Carolina, which is good news for Kentucky, Florida State, and Georgia, the other three teams on his list.

New Orleans’ Boycott Bowl >>> Super Bowl

Screwed over by the refs, Saints fans boycotted the Super Bowl by doing what they do best: partying.

God Bless New Orleans.

    NFL 100 commercial was great.

Hate or Like… props to Patriots.

That was a funny commercial – kind of reminded me of the old Terry Tate commercials. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah, have to give props to the Pats, but I’m beyond tired of watching them. Gets pretty boring to see the same team in the SB year after year. I also thought they got away with an uncalled PI when the Rams nearly hit that pass at the goal line. The reciever could not lift his left arm to corral the pass because the defender had his arm before the ball got there. Not saying the Pats wouldn’t have won anyway, but that was a critical call.

Must be paying KSR well to have his ridiculous commercial pubbed so much.

I am listening to The Leach report right now, and he was interviewing Dan Dakich. I know Matt has his differences, and he has trolled us a little bit in the past, but he sure was high on the Cats today, and I really liked his call of the Florida game. Even when he says something negative about UK, he is usually saying the truth, even when it hurts sometimes. He is becoming my favorite announcer, to be honest. Definitely passes Bilas ever since Jay decided to defend UNCheat.
