After months of unending anti-checkerboard sentiment, the Kentucky Wildcats will debut brand new uniforms that do not feature the pattern when they take the court in the Bahamas. Not only is UK/Nike giving the fans what they want, they’re appeasing the players with an all-black look.
Hopefully, this does just enough to silence uniform talk until Big Blue Madness. My ears can’t handle anymore checkerboard takes. What they can handle is more insight from practice, like when Calipari said he’s been matching up Keldon Johnson against Tyler Herro and “that’s been an absolute war,” something I did not expect to hear in the preseason. There’s a good chance we’ll hear more scuttlebutt from practice in the near future.
A Decommitment…in Basketball?
Decommitments have become common in football, but in basketball it’s unheard of, especially with John Calipari calling the shots at Kentucky. Yesterday it happened for the first time in the Calipari era when D.J. Jeffries reopened his recruitment.
The first person to commit in the 2019 recruiting class, there are a couple obvious reasons why he might have pulled the trigger. The first names that come to mind are Penny Hardaway, Dontaie Allen and Kahlil Whitney. Kentucky has been put in a weird spot, but they’re in great shape on the wing with Allen and Whitney set to visit campus this week. Life will go on just fine with Calipari leading UK’s recruiting charge.
While you’re counting down the days to Kentucky’s trip to the Bahamas, we have a good way to pass the time. The Matt Jones Podcast returned as Drew and Matt shared stories and tips for the trip to Atlantis.
If you prefer less shenanigans and more recruiting substance, a new episode of Hardly Committed will hit iTunes later this afternoon. Subscribe to the new iTunes feed to get it on your phone ASAP. That will happen right after you receive a new Aaron Torres Sports Podcast, because you’re already subscribed, right? Right.
Football Recruits on Campus
As camp draws near with players reporting on Thursday, Kentucky football coaches have hosted recruits on campus on almost a daily basis over the last two weeks. Instead of creating one big weekend, they’ve given all their attention to handful of players at a time. Yesterday it was UK commit Tra Wilkins, an outside linebacker from Georgia who the Dawgs are trying to flip.

Reds Ship Off Kentucky Kid
Louisville native Adam Duvall is no longer a Cincinnati Red. An All-Star in 2016, the homerun hitter was traded to the Atlanta Braves for two pitchers and an outfielder. Was it good or was it a bad move? I cannot be the judge, but I can tell you it sucks to see one from the neighborhood leave the closest Major League team.
Get Out the Vote
Kentucky is rolling along in the NCAA March Madness all-time starting five bracket. They shouldn’t have trouble taking down Ohio State, but just for good measure, make sure you cast a vote before noon.

July is Over
It’s hard to describe just how insane the month of August will be around KSR. There will probably a few bumps in the road along the way, but I promise it will be worth in the end. Until then, a little patience could go a long way. Thanks in advance and prepare for another edition of Kentucky Sports Radio, LIVE from the Hillary Boone Tennis Complex on UK’s campus.
