Today On KSR: More UK Basketball Media Day coverage coming your way

Yesterday was the 2019 edition of UK Basketball Media Day, the eleventh for one John Calipari at the University of Kentucky. We spent most of the afternoon focusing on Calipari and all he had to say about his new team, a lot of which can be found in this link dump:

Today we will have more leftovers from Calipari, as well as the first round of our player features from the breakout interviews with everyone on the team, plus some fun videos. In the meantime, click on those links above to get caught up and watch this recap of the day from new KSR videographer (we’re fancy now) Bradley McKee.

Now for some other important things going on:

J.J. Traynor to take unofficial visit to UK today.

Traynor, a rising high school basketball star out of Bardstown, Ky., will be in Lexington today for a sneak peek at how the UK basketball program operates. The four-star power forward has been checking in on a lot of his nearby suitors lately: he was at Louisville over the weekend; he was at Xavier on Monday; back in Cincinnati at UC on Tuesday; and he will return to Louisville this coming weekend for an official visit, per this story. He does not have an offer from Kentucky just yet, but that could very well change in the near future with today’s visit and another one on deck for Big Blue Madness.

Traynor plans to commit to the school of his choosing this fall.

Mark Stoops to appear on SEC teleconference during his bye week.

We are very limited in opportunities to hear from the UK football coaches and players this week, being a bye week and all, but Mark Stoops still has his SEC teleconference obligation today. Stoops will appear on the call around lunch time and we will relay anything of importance back to you from the little time the media will get with him via phone.

Stoops only other scheduled media appearance of the week occurred after yesterday’s practice and he went a little longer than usual considering he didn’t have his weekly Monday press conference.

Hear all of Stoops’ post-practice comments:

A new KSR Football Podcast will be out soon.

We recorded it last night. I don’t know where it is or when it’s coming, but it’s coming. It was good therapy after an ugly, ugly showing by the Cats down in Columbia.

Kentucky is drafting a bill like the one that just passed in California.

As expected, Kentucky is one of the many other states that will follow California’s lead by a taking a big step forward towards allowing student-athletes to be paid. State Senator Morgan McGarvey, D-Louisville, took the lead on the new bill and he has been working on it since August. Uh oh, NCAA.

Come out to Shamrock’s tomorrow. It’ll be fun.

Shamrock’s was one of the two winners in my Restaurant Madness with UK Federal Credit Union, and tomorrow we will celebrate there with a fun event at the Patchen location in Lexington. From 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, I will be hanging out at Shamrock’s (again, the Patchen location) with friends from UKFCU, and we will be giving away lots of fun things, including lower-level tickets to a UK football game. There will be other cool prizes and some info from UKFCU if you need it, and I’m pretty sure Shamrock’s has Keno, so come join us for a fun social event after work.

It’s time for me to get to the radio station.

On today’s show, Matt Jones is still in New York with Ryan Lemond and I in Lexington and Shannon The Dude in Louisville. Tune in at 10 a.m.
