Good morning, Big Blue Nation! It is a beautiful morning and I hope everyone has a great Sunday planned for themselves. Isn’t it crazy that today is already August 30th? It has been over five months since March Madness was canceled and we all headed home from the SEC Tournament in Nashville without even getting to see the ‘Cats play a game. Now, here we sit just a few weeks away from the first SEC football game of the season. Man, what a year 2020 has been…
Saturday was a busy day in the world of sports and today will be more of the same so let’s just dive right into the news and notes from around the country.
College Football is BACK!!!

Many said it couldn’t be done. Conferences around the country, including the Big Ten and Pac 12, gave up on the idea of having a season weeks ago. However, for those who plugged away and found safe solutions to allow their players an opportunity to have a season, their hard work was rewarded.
At 9:00 p.m. on ESPN, Central Arkansas and Austin Peay kicked off the 2020 college football season. Those watching were treated to a 75-yard touchdown run from Austin Peay Running Back C.J. Evans Jr. on the first play from scrimmage. However, Central Arkansas would score a go-ahead touchdown with 34 seconds remaining to capture a 24-17 victory.
It may have been a game between two teams that nobody would ever watch otherwise, but boy was it exciting to have football on television for the first time in what seems like an eternity. There will be a full slate of games next Saturday as more and more schools begin their 2020 schedule. Also, we will have Kentucky football in 27 days. Start the countdown!
Jager Burton Decision Day
Today is a massive day for UK football. Jager Burton, a Top 150 recruit nationally, will make his college commitment this evening at 6:00 p.m. EST at KSBar. The 4-star Offensive Lineman has the blue bloods of college football going up against his hometown Wildcats, as Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Oregon are the other schools joining Kentucky in the Fredrick Douglass High School prospect’s Final 5.
Anytime UK can simply be “one of the hats on the table” with a group of powerhouse programs like that it is a recruiting win. However, when you can BEAT those schools for a recruit, well, that is something Kentucky simply hasn’t done very often. Burton would be the fifth Top 150 commitment in the Mark Stoops era if he does decide to become the next member of the Big Blue Wall this evening.

Right now, all 247 Crystal Ball Predictions have Jager Burton picking Kentucky. Many of those predictions were flipped in the last 72 hours or so since the announcement was made that his decision would take place at KSBar. Stay tuned to Twitter and this website for all the information you need leading up to the decision.
UK Football Scrimmaged Yesterday
In current Kentucky football news, there was a padded scrimmage yesterday at the practice facility. Coach Stoops, who generally isn’t very enthusiastic after scrimmages, said it was a “very good scrimmage today, it was good to get out there.” Stoops had encouraging things to say about the Quarterback position as well, adding that “I know the quarterback position is what everybody’s excited about, and to be honest, I thought we played really well.”
For a full recap of the scrimmage and more comments from Coach Mark Stoops check out Jack Pilgrim’s article from yesterday.
NBA Second Round Begins Today
There are a pair of Game 6 matchups today between the Clippers and Mavericks at 3:30 and the Nuggets and Jazz at 8:30. The first game today though, at 1:00 on ESPN, is between the Celtics and Raptors, which will kick off the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. Former Wildcat Jamal Murray is averaging 30.8 points per game in the playoffs including back-to-back games of 50 and 42. The Nuggets trail the Jazz 3-2 in the series.
I’ll be coming at you later today with some coverage of the Reds as well as Cincinnati looks to win their series against the Chicago Cubs. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. Eastern Time this afternoon. Otherwise, I hope everyone has a great Sunday!
