Today on KSR: It’s Tyler Herro and Keldon Johnson Day

Good morning all, and greetings after a few days off to rest and recharge. Here’s what we’ve got in store for you today in the wonderful world of UK Sports.

Tyler Herro and Keldon Johnson will be on KSR

If you missed the news minutes ago, Keldon Johnson announced that he will keep his name in the NBA Draft, ending his career at Kentucky. Yesterday, Tyler Herro did the same. Both will join KSR this morning at 11 a.m. to discuss their time in Lexington and what lies ahead. If you can’t listen to today’s show, don’t worry; we’ll bring you all the fun stuff as it happens, along with audio once it’s available.

Per usual, Ashton Hagans has the best scoop, giving us a look at Keldon, Tyler, and PJ’s new cars on Instagram last night:

What will happen next with Kerry Blackshear Jr.?

Yesterday, Virginia Tech star Kerry Blackshear Jr. announced he will either be a grad transfer for his final year of eligibility or go to the NBA Draft. The 6’10” 250 lbs. center has quickly become one of the hottest names on the market, and a source tells KSR Kentucky has already expressed interest in bringing him to Lexington.

Blackshear had 18 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 assists in the Hokies’ season-ending loss to Duke, and 18 points and 5 rebounds vs. Kentucky in the 2017 game at Rupp Arena. He’d be a huge addition to next year’s roster (ESPN ranks him the No. 1 transfer; Nate Sestina is No. 3), but has a long list of suitors and will go through the pre-draft evaluation process. Something to keep an eye on in the coming days.

UK Baseball lost to Louisville

It was a rough night for the Bat Cats, who got pummeled 18-6 by Louisville at Kentucky Proud Park. They’ll look to regroup on Thursday vs. No. 22 Tennessee. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m., and the game will air on SEC Network+.

UK Softball gets its crack at the Cards

The softball team will seek revenge for the baseball team tonight with a rivalry showdown at Louisville. The Cats are riding high after a win over No. 5 LSU on Friday and have won the last three vs. Louisville, so tune in to see if they can extend the streak. The game starts at 6 p.m. ET and will be shown live on ACC Network Extra.

Let’s Go Predators

The Preds can take a 3-1 lead back to Nashville tonight with a win over the Dallas Stars, so dress your catfish in a glittery cowboy hat and be near the TV when the puck drops at 8 p.m. ET on USA. Last night, both Columbus and New York advanced to the second round with sweeps of Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, respectively. Sorry, Jonny David.

KSR Dog of the Day

Today’s pup is Lola Pearl, who loves rocking Kentucky Blue and letting the wind blow through her hair:

Finally, happy birthday, mom! Put the pups in the car, roll the windows down, and have a fantastic day. I love you.

To each his own. I won’t bash hockey, and I have tried to get into it, but it’s just not my thing. In fact, one good aspect of spring is the lack of sports-related stress, imho. I enjoy watching NBA, but I’m more of a casual fan.

I was on board with the one and done philosophy since Cal has been here. Now I’m not so sure it gives you the best chance to win the championship. Obviously you’re going to win a lot of games but it also appears obvious that you need veterans in the tournament. How many tournament games, 1-2 championship games, has FT shooting cost UK?

Plus we seem to lose guys that would stick around. They transfer or go ahead and declare because they believe they are being recruited over. I have to wonder if Cal would’ve had a few more really good juniors or seniors had he been a little more proactive and played them more instead of a 5 star freshman. I think it may be time to rethink this one and done recruiting philosophy.
