Congratulations, my friend. You made it to game week. In five short days, we’ll only be hours away from the season opener vs. Toledo, ending the long drought of Kentucky sports in your life. From there, UK Football and Basketball will occupy your weekends until April. Get your chores done now.
Lots to do today, so let’s get to it.
Stoops press conference at noon
Mark Stoops will hold his first weekly press conference of the season at noon, giving the media and fans a look at how the team’s faring heading into week one. We’ll have a live stream on KSR, breaking news as it happens, and a full recap from Nick Roush, our boots on the ground.
We’ll finally get a depth chart
Before that, Kentucky will finally release a depth chart, letting us know who won the position wars in training camp. Feel free to leave your predictions in the comments.
So, when are we going to hear about Xavier Peters?
Another week came and went and still no news from the NCAA about Xavier Peters. I’m sure Stoops will be asked about it today, so hopefully he’ll have an update for us. I’d say this is getting ridiculous, but it’s the NCAA we’re dealing with, after all.
The line opened at Kentucky -13.5 in Vegas this summer; it’s moved to Kentucky -11.5 in the months since. Before you hop on Bovada or in a car to Indiana, here’s a sobering stat from Adam Luckett: since 2016, Kentucky is just 3-14 against the spread as a favorite. In that span, they’re 0-6 against opponents from the “Group of Five,” aka the AAC, MAC, Mountain West, Sun Belt, and Conference USA.
I wish I had known that when I first jumped on the line in July.
The first Mark Stoops Show of the season is tonight
Tonight is also the first Mark Stoops call-in show of the season. Tune in to 630 WLAP at 6 p.m. to hear what Stoops has to say ahead of Saturday’s game, or just check the ole KSR afterwards to catch the highlights.
Did you see this profile of Terry Wilson?
The folks in the Kentucky Video department put out another great football feature last night, this one profiling Terry Wilson’s journey from JuCo to Lexington. It’s definitely worth seven and a half minutes of your time this morning.
Backstreet’s back, alright!
The 90s really will be back tonight in Nashville as I make my way to Bridgestone Arena to see the Backstreet Boys in concert. Seeing them as a thirty-something will be a little different than seeing them as a teenager, but I guarantee you I’ll still know every word and no, I don’t care if you judge me for it.
Kevin, if you’re reading, can you hook a girl up with some backstage passes? Thanks.
KSR Dog of the Day
Today is National Dog Day AND the first day of classes at UK, so cheers to “Rafeal” Little, who is ready to dominate the gridiron and the classroom:
The Kentucky Basketball team gathered outside the lodge this morning for their own first day of school picture:
Radio starts in one hour and the gang has plenty to talk about — congrats, Drew and Abby! — so get some work done now in order to give them your full attention.
