Today on KSR: Horse Racing and Baseball is Back in the Bluegrass

Horse racing is back in the Bluegrass. Keeneland’s gates will open today to start the spring meet. First post set for 3:00 p.m.

It’s a day earlier than normal, and frankly, I don’t like it. I can’t put my finger on it, but it’s weird to open Keeneland on a Thursday. Sure, it’ll be cool to see live music with Thursday Night Live in the Paddock, but that feels more like a Churchill Downs move. The change of date also means students can’t use opening day as an excuse to skip class Friday.

The change is a bit bizarre. I think the only reason I don’t like it is because I can’t be there this afternoon. It’s going to be another another beautiful day in the Bluegrass and there’s no better way to spend it than by cashing some tickets at the track. If that doesn’t put a smile on your face, this will.

Take me out to the ball game!

As the races wind down at Keeneland, the Lexington Legends are opening the gates to Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The defending South Atlantic League Champs will give replica championship rings to the first 1,000 fans in the door. Former UK linebacker Josh Forrest will throw out the first pitch at 7:05.

UK Softball Picked Up a W

Rachel Lawson’s squad took down EKU 11-5 for a midweek victory in Richmond.

Spring Practice Continues

As you read this the Cats are wrapping up the 11th practice of the spring season at the Joe Craft Football Training Facility. We’ll hear from Brad White’s defense as soon as they’re finished on the field.

NIT Championship

The fighting Aaron Flener’s have a chance to end Shaka Smart’s season. Tip-off from Madison Square Garden between Lipscomb and Texas is set for 7:00 on ESPN.

KTR Returns

After March Madness forced us to take a brief break, T.J. and I are throwing the headsets on tonight to record a new episode of Kentucky Thrones Radio. Only ten days away from the season premiere, this week we’ll be joined by Survivor champion “Kentucky” Nick Wilson. We’ll dish on his two favorite shows before we cook up the ultimate season eight preview next week.

The Ultimate BBNBA Highlight

Before you get a complete BBNBA recap, enjoy Wednesday highlights from 11 different Wildcats. From Trey Lyles to Skal Labissiere, they got ’em all.  Stick around for Malik Monk’s exclamation point at the end.

The Thursday before final four weekend and there’s not a single mention of the basketball team in the morning post. Ugh, so sad.
