Honestly, I’m not sure how to get back on the horse after that depressing news about the Jim Beam fire, but the show must go on.
Happy Thirth, everyone. The Fourth may get all the pomp and circumstance, but in my neck of the woods, the celebration of our nation’s independence starts tonight. And what’s more American than getting married in Gatlinburg? Way to rep the blue and white in enemy territory, on your big day nonetheless.
Here’s what you can look forward to today in the world of UK sports and beyond.
Summer League action continues
Wenyen Gabriel and Tyler Herro stole the show on the first night of the NBA Summer League; last night, it was Keldon Johnson’s turn to shine. Keldon had a game-high 29 points (10-17 FG, 3-4 3PT), 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 assist in 25 minutes to help push San Antonio past Memphis. That was enough for earn some major praise from veteran Spurs center Thomas Robinson, who compared him to Russell Westbrook.
“Baby Russ, that’s what I call him,” Robinson said. “I definitely see the makings of a superstar in him.”

Both Tyler and Wenyen sat out last night’s games to rest, but should be back in action today. Here’s the schedule:
- 3:00 PM: Miami Heat (Tyler Herro) vs. Golden State Warriors
- 5:00 PM: Los Angeles Lakers vs. Sacramento Kings (Wenyen Gabriel)
- 7:00 PM: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Memphis Grizzlies
- 9:00 PM: San Antonio Spurs (Keldon Johnson) at Utah Jazz
All games will air on NBATV.
Free agency madness continues
Yesterday’s big free agency news was Willie Cauley-Stein agreeing to a deal with the Golden State Warriors. The entire sport is waiting to hear what Kawhi Leonard will do, but here at home, our attention is on three former Cats still looking for homes: DeMarcus Cousins, Darius Miller, and Rajon Rondo. Drew gave his best guess on where all three will land last night, but stay tuned. We’ll bring you the Woj bombs as they land.
A UK fan checked out the UK-themed restaurant in Japan yesterday
Several years ago, we featured a UK-themed restaurant in Japan on the site, and yesterday, UK fan Joanna Stevens went to see it for herself in Osaka:
I’m 6,000+ miles from Lexington, but this is where we had lunch ? #BBN

Mrs. Stevens, let us know if you want to write a follow-up. What a truly random, fantastic place.
The Women’s National Team is headed to the World Cup Finals
If you’ve got plans for Sunday, cancel them because the Women’s National Team is playing for the World Cup. With yesterday’s 2-1 win over England, the ladies advanced to the finals, where they’ll face the winner of the Netherlands vs. Sweden, which takes place today at 3 p.m. ET on FOX. I’m still in awe of Alex Morgan’s tea-sipping goal celebration:
The only thing better than that are the salty tears of the English fans who called Morgan’s act disrespectful. Take your L, folks.
The new Spider-Man movie is good
Last night, I went with my husband and his Marvel-loving friends to see Spider-Man: Far From Home. Even though it’s not in the realm of Avengers: Endgame, it’s still a very fun movie. Tom Holland may be from England, but he’s the perfect Spider-Man, charming, awkward, and therefore believable as a teenager. I still don’t like Zendaya as MJ (or rather, this MJ altogether), but Holland, his pal Ned, and Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio were great. Go check it out if you need a break from the festivities this weekend.
KSR Dog of the Day
Meet Nelson, who would definitely put his Ls down if he had thumbs.
One last KSR before the holiday
The gang is off Thursday and Friday, so soak up your final (new) episode of KSR starting one hour from now.
