It’s a special day, America. Today is the day we celebrate chicken wings.
In honor of National Chicken Wing Day, my partners and I over at KSBar and Grille are letting you rob us of our chicken wings with a deal that will almost certainly destroy our books. For today and today only, because it is a national holiday, we are running a Buy One, Get One special on any size order of wings, traditional or boneless style. As some of you may already know, we have the best wings on the planet, and today we are pretty much giving them away because someone on the internet decided it is National Chicken Wing Day. I don’t love that we’re doing it but we’re doing it and you’d be crazy to not take advantage of our crazy promotion.
This is such a bad idea.
The KSR Summer Tour is taking a week off.
After three straight weeks of fifteen consecutive morning radio shows on the road, we are taking a short break to recharge our batteries and let our automobiles rest before we get back out around the Bluegrass. This week the show returns to studio, although Matt will be hosting from New York while Ryan and I dial in from Lexington with Shannon in Louisville. It will be our first time doing the show with everyone spread so far apart, but hopefully you won’t even notice.
The tour will return next week with the following stops:
8/5 – Bowling Green @ Overtime Sports Bar and Grill
8/6 – Hopkinsville @ Hopkinsville Sportsplex
8/7 – Benton @ CFSB Bank
8/8 – Paducah @ Royal Oaks Chevrolet
8/9 – Louisville Golf Outing @ Glen Oaks Country Club
We will discuss Last Chance U on today’s show.
A week ago we gave you a homework assignment: watch all eight episodes of the new fourth season of Last Chance U on Netflix. We will break it all down on today’s show, but do we think Ryan and Shannon got it done? We will find out soon.
The Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships starts today in Lexington.
Today through Sunday, pro tennis will take over the Hillary J. Boone Tennis Campus on UK’s campus for the Lexington Challenger tennis tournaments. There is the ATP 80 Men’s Tournament and USTA Pro Circuit women’s tournament going on at the same time with about $115,000 in combined prize money for aspiring young tennis pros. Current stars like John Isner and Sloane Stephens played in this event in the past, and this year we may see others who are on their way to stardom in the sport.
It is a lot of fun to attend, even if you’re not a tennis junkie. I highly recommend going out for a night or two. More information can be found at LexingtonChallenger.com.
Fall camp to begin later this week.
The players will report to fall camp on Friday to kick off the official start of the football season. The fun will begin with UK Football Media Day and we will of course be there to bring you all of the coverage as camp gets underway. We will hear from Mark Stoops, Eddie Gran and Brad White at the podium early Friday morning, followed by interviews with all of the players on the Kroger Field field later that afternoon. Kentucky-Sports-Radio-dot-com will be littered with football content all day and throughout the weekend, so get excited about what is ahead because football is right around the corner.
After the players survive Media Day with all of the nagging reporters like the many we will send, they get to meet the fans on Saturday at UK Football Fan Day. All of the Fan Day details can be found here.
After that, they go to work.
A 16-year-old won THREE MILLION DOLLARS in the Fortnite World Cup.
The first-ever Fortnite World Cup was held over the weekend at ARTHUR ASHE STADIUM (What???!!!!), where the U.S. Open will be played in about a month. The winner, a 16-year-old out of Pennsylvania, took home the $3 million grand prize for beating out other video gamers.
LOOK AT THE CROWD THAT SHOWED UP TO WATCH OTHER PEOPLE PLAY VIDEO GAMES:
I can’t wait to get Ryan’s thoughts on today’s show.
That UK basketball commitment was pretty big, huh?
In case you were busy all weekend and missed the HUGE news, Kentucky landed a commitment from Brandon Boston Jr., one of the best players in the 2020 class. The five-star guard committed to Kentucky while on his official visit Friday night, picking the Cats over Duke, Auburn, Florida and Oregon, to become the first player on board in the next class. He is an elite talent who is close to several other elite talents in the class, so 2020 is off to a roaring start.
I bet the trip to Malibu Jack’s sealed the deal.
