Today On KSR: “Hamilton” movie, now on Disney+

“Hamilton” is considered the best Broadway musical to ever do it, and now you can see it in the comfort of your own home for a fraction of the cost of a glass of wine at the real thing.

For only one Disney+ membership or one good friend willing to share the password to theirs, you can see the original cast of “Hamilton” perform the hit musical in movie form. It won’t be same as throwing away your child’s college fund to see it in person on Broadway, but reviews say it’s still a stunning performance on TV.

The “Hamilton” movie release was originally set for October 15, 2021 in movie theaters (remember those?), but when coronavirus sent America into a state of misery, Disney paid $75 million for the rights and bumped the release up a year and then some. By making the bold move to stream it for free to subscribers, Disney may have thrown off how blockbuster movies are released moving forward, but it gives you and me something new to watch, and I’m all for that. I can’t wait to see it.

Other things of note this morning…

Skyy Clark, a five-star guard in the 2022 class, got his UK offer.

Skyy Clark has been on UK’s radar since at least last fall, and last night he finally got his scholarship offer. The offer came over Zoom while he was video conferencing with UK’s coaching staff, who he thanked in a tweet after their conversation.

“mannn what a week it’s been,” Clark posted online. “blessings on blessings. huge honor to receive an offer from Kentucky. thank you to Coach Calipari, Coach Justus, Coach Payne, and Coach Barbee for believing in me. i am honored. all glory to God.”

Kentucky offers 2022 five-star guard Skyy Clark

Clark is only the second high school junior to receive an offer from Kentucky and the first guard of the class. It’s not a well-kept secret that he loves the Cats, so go ahead and write him down as one we can’t let get away. Kentucky is in great standing and an early commitment is not a crazy expectation.

There is a special guest on today’s Sources Say Podcast.

Jack will release a new Sources Say Podcast later today. He will be joined by a special guest whose name I can’t say but can be found in the section just above this one.

Sources say it rhymes with Guy Blark.

While you were sleeping: Makur Maker committed to Howard.

At around 4 a.m. Maker picked Howard over Kentucky, UCLA and Memphis.

The timing of the big announcement was a new one.

It appears the Washington Redskins will not be called the Washington Redskins much longer.

The Redskins mascot for the pro football team in our nation’s capital has been a controversial topic for years, but it has remained unchanged despite the calls for change.

2020 would now like a word.

The pressure to drop the Redskins in favor of a mascot a little less derogatory has really picked up and may have hit its boiling point when FedEx, the corporate sponsor of the Redskins’ home field, asked the franchise to change its name. Then at some point yesterday, Nike dropped all Washington Redskins merchandise from its website. If you go to Nike’s NFL merchandise, you’ll notice Washington is missing from the list of teams on the sidebar menu. The site has been wiped clean of any Redskins mention. Pepsi also demanded a change.

It’s one thing for a Twitter army or a petition to ask, but now the money is asking. They going to ignore the money?

Bear Watch: It made an appearance on State Street.

I do not know the whereabouts of the wild bear on UK’s campus but I do know it was roaming around State Street yesterday afternoon.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife is tracking the bear and has asked that you not do anything stupid if you happen to stumble upon the bear. Those are my words. They actually said something like don’t approach the bear but I’m taking it one step further and telling you don’t do anything stupid, which would include approaching the bear. Report it to local police or the department of wildlife.

Also, how elusive is this bear? We’re approaching Harrison Ford in The Fugitive levels of elusiveness.

Round 2 of the Rocket Mortgage Classic is underway but don’t get too excited because golf coverage has sucked since the restart.

The KSR radio show is taking the day off.

Since Ryan Lemond bolted off for Florida after yesterday’s show and Shannon has been in Florida all week, the rest of us decided we’d take today off too. The website will continue doing its thing because we never take days off here, but there will be no live radio show from 10 to noon. We will air a ‘best of’ show from the Iowa trip instead.

Go Cats.

The bear was spotted in Stonewall neighborhood this AM. Police were called and came and patrolled. Nothing since.

Hamilton is inaccurate and a waste of time.

If you are serious, I think you are in distinct minority. I believe a great many people enjoyed the opportunity to see Hamilton.

Artistic brilliance but historical trash .. elite human trafficking slave owners portrayed by black hip-hop wordsmiths . Irony in bright lights with a big stage and a talented cast
