Today on KSR: Gains

@N11kolas

Everyone is getting swole this summer on Kentucky’s campus. On the basketball court we saw a shredded version of Ashton Hagans. On the south side of campus, the Kentucky football team is putting in work.

Pictured above is Nik Ognenovic, a freshman tight end who has only been on campus a couple weeks. That’s what he looks like after less than a month of lifting. Jesus. He still has some work to do to catch up to Kash Daniel, one of many who trained in the sand this week.

@KashDaniel15

Josh Paschal is returning to form following his fight with cancer, which was recently profiled by Athlon Sports. For those counting at home, Paschal has a minimum of 450 pounds on his back. That’s a lot.

@UKFootball

Now I’m feeling bleak and hopeless as I sit on my couch blogging away this morning. I’ll get back to the gains one day, but today it’s a lot of typing. Here’s what lies ahead today on KSR.

Crootin

One of Kentucky’s top linebacker targets shared a cryptic Tweet Friday (and he wasn’t the only one). Romello Height said, “Making my decision a lil earlier than I thought! Stay Tuned!” Ranked by 247 as a top 25 outside linebacker in the country, the lengthy Georgia pass rusher officially visited in June. Miami and Georgia Tech are the Cats’ top competition, but UK appears to be in the driver’s seat.

Meanwhile, Kalil Branham’s thank you tour finally made it to Kentucky. As the four-star wide receiver reminisced on his time officially visiting in Lexington, he gave KSBar a shout out. A new motto I’m pitching to the big wigs, “Wings so good, you’ll wanna play Yahtzee!”

U-S-A!

The U.S. Women’s National Team took down France on their home turf to advance to the World Cup semifinals. Megan Rapinoe ripped in a pair of goals, including one burner off a set piece, to propel the Americans to a 2-1 win.

The crowd at KSBar was crazy. It’s only going to get better from here. The Lexington chapter of the American Outlaws is looking for a drummer to lead the fans’ cheers for Tuesday’s semifinal match. If you can help and wanna have a good time, get in contact with the crew.

On a semi-related note, this Wayne Rooney MLS goal from earlier this week is confounding. How did he know the net would be empty and does someone consistently practice 70-yarders to make it look this easy?

Lakers’ Madness

The Kawhi Leonard free agency tour will tip-off this week in L.A. He’s meeting with the Lakers, Clippers and Raptors. The Lakers’ meeting will just be between Magic Johnson and Jeanie Buss. It was unfathomable a few weeks ago, but this league.

NBA free agency will carry the sports conversation for the next weeks during the slowest month in sports. The mothership’s coverage is headlined by an extended, live edition of Rachel Nichols’ The Jump. Behind-the-scenes KSR’s Maggie Davis is ensuring the production goes off seamlessly. We couldn’t be more proud.

Last Chance U Coach Indicted

The loud-mouthed jerk from the last two seasons of the Netflix documentary needs a lawyer. Jason Brown, formerly of Independence Community College fame, has been charged with ten criminal counts, including blackmail and identity theft. Who could have seen this coming?

Those are some Pipes

Typically that refers to something a plumber fixes or the byproduct of the “curls for the girls” lifestyle. The pipes I’m talking about are Whitney Houston’s. Kygo turned a previously unreleased recording of Houston singing Steve Winwood’s Higher Love into a masterpiece. I’ve listened to the song no less than 50 times over the last two days. Man, she was incredible.

Looking Back on UK Football

Since there won’t be much happening around the sports world, today I’m using the opportunity to get a little retrospective on the historic season that was. I have a feeling you’ll enjoy what I have cooked up to share throughout the day.

      Aw did she say mean things about the president again? And then proceeded to win the quarterfinal game singlehandedly?

      I’d rather lose without her than win with her…and it goes far beyond what the moron said about OUR President

      Uh huh. Pretty unpatriotic of you to wish the national team to lose like that, especially against the French.

      Meh. It would still be soccer, so I wouldn’t be watching regardless. Good luck to them, though.

    I’d rather our women’s team win the World Cup. That’s a pretty selfish statement that you’d rather us lose because of one person.

      It’s uninformed people like you that pull for the jersey no matter who is wearing it…or maybe you like her and the garbage she has been spewing ..if so, cheer your hear out John L.

      TheAssman … blindly following someone based on their title is what is causing this problem to start with. Practice what you preach.

    Anyone else look at Nik Ognenovic and think he’s yelling out “Neeeeeerds!” as he completes the curl?
