July 15 is a big day. (Today is July 15 by the way.) It’s National Hot Dog Day. Did you know that? It is, so eat a hot dog or four today. It’s also Tapioca Pudding Day and Be A Dork Day, according to the internet.
July 15 is Brennan Canada’s birthday, so Happy Birthday to Brennan Canada. The George Rogers Clark standout will be a sophomore this season for the Cats and he’s one of only a few players on the team who know their way around the facilities.
Today is also Twitter’s birthday (it’s 14) and Damian Lillard’s birthday and Forest Whitaker’s birthday. Happy Birthday to them too, and everyone else. Let’s all have a great July 15.
John Calipari will be a guest on KSR.
Coming up on today’s radio show, Matt Jones will be joined by John Calipari for an interview before Calipari goes back to work on campus. I’m sure Cal will have plenty to say so tune in to get his latest thoughts on his team, coronavirus, his hair and more.
Calipari had a lot to say yesterday.
Coach Cal invited the media into a Zoom teleconference where he took questions about the current state of his basketball team and basketball in general.
Read his most newsworthy comments via the stories below:
— Kentucky’s “got a sterile bubble that’s as good as it gets anywhere”
— Calipari hopeful college basketball happens, but says sport must go by science
— John Calipari expands on new McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative
— Calipari not cutting hair even though it “looks like shit”
— John Calipari feels “confident” Olivier Sarr will receive waiver from NCAA
Or watch the entire Zoom:
Moussa Cisse to announce his decision today.
Cisse, a five-star center and the ninth-ranked player in the Class of 2020, is all set to put an end to his recruitment later this afternoon. He plans to announce his decision at 4 p.m. today and Penny Hardaway has his champagne ready for a Memphis commitment.
Kentucky is among the list of finalists, although John Calipari has not actively pursued Cisse in quite awhile. Cisse also names Florida State, Georgetown, Georgia and LSU as contenders, but Memphis is expected to be the pick.
(It’s OK. Coach Cal is confident Sarr will be eligible.)

An update on Joey Gatewood’s status:
According to KSR’s own Nick Roush, UK is getting Joey Gatewood’s transfer waiver to the NCAA this week. Now you may be thinking, hey, the hell is taking so long? and that’s a fair question. Just know it is not UK’s fault. UK only recently received all of the paperwork it needs from the SEC to then complete the process. There was an extra step or two since Gatewood is moving within the conference:
A team of former Marquette players won The Basketball Tournament.
The Golden Eagles, a team of Marquette alums, won the TBT championship Tuesday night and will now split the $1 million prize from the winner-take-all tournament. Each player will get about $90,000, all thanks to 38-year-old Travis Diener’s game-winner from the corner:
Diener’s father gave us the reaction video we missed from March Madness this year:

It’s also Harrison County Day on KSR.
