Although it would have been terrible for world peace, a part of me was secretly hoping they would get into a big fight, complete with kicking and pulling hair. Hell, put them in a cage together! If we really wanted to get them to know each other, let’s coop them up together in a 1988 Yugo with no AC and make them drive from Boston to California in the summer. 😉

Matt has gone crazy. No friggin’ way in hell I would ever root for UNCheat.

If UK had no basketball team to cheer for I would probably pick someone else in state like WKU. Or maybe a team that has a former UK player as their coach. Could possibly get behind a team like Villanova – I like Jay Wright. Gonzaga? But UNC? Hell to the NO!

I was gonna say Villanova, but would you like them if Wright left?

RM, aside from the old powers like UNCheat, Kansas and maybe UCLA, there aren’t too many schools that have had extended success across multiple coaching regimes. So I think you can say that about most programs.

I watch a lot of random games; and, usually within 5 minutes, I pick a team to cheer for. I can assure you, over decades and decades, it has never, ever been UNCheat.
I even rooted for Indiana in the title game in ’81.

I hate UNC and Duke pretty much the same. Live in NC in 84, when Kentucky lost to Georgetown and the tar bums went on to win by default because an idiot passed the ball to Worthy by mistake. Duke was just getting started in their rise as a power with coach cry baby. Also, blame the tar bums for creating the need for a shot clock because of the 4 corners thing. I’d root for NC State any day!

Oooohh I hate this topic. If UK didn’t exist anymore, pick a different team, that you have no existing connection to…

Maybe NC State, so I can cheer against the rest of their conference? Maybe Florida to stay in conference. West Virginia possibly.

Matt is SO gross for picking UNC.

My “back-up teams” to cheer for are Marshall (my cousin went there) and Xavier (I almost went there and a couple of my friends went there).

I cheer for the Ky teams; even small schools like Ky Wesleyan and Georgetown. With a bunch of sports channels, I get to see WKU and Murray quite often.

Ronnie Dawn’s Mom was talking to me yesterday about the game in 2003 in US Bank arena when her son made 7 3 pointers against Tubby’s team when he played for Marshall. Gotta root for a team like that even though I am a rabbid Wildcat fan!

Earlier topic, worst jobs. Worked at Newport Steel on the furnaces. Steel melts at 2850 degrees. In the summer in that melt shop, hottest, worst air to breath, sparks coming out of the furnace…..

      11:18 am June 12, 2018 Permalink

Yes, exactly! They had this air system that was supposed to suck the exhaust up from the furnaces, but it always got clogged. It was dusty as……. and when you blew your nose you got black, well you get the idea. I’m a letter carrier now and get soaked walking here in Northern Kentucky during the summer, but not even a close match to that job!

I was a supervisor for a few years in a place that manufactured rubber belts (automotive, industrial, etc.). This plant also mixed the rubber, so there were a lot of raw materials around, including an insane amount of carbon black. Guess which area this guy worked in… Essentially, all black rubber items contain the soot from burned crude oil to make that black color. Before it is mixed into the rubber, it is a VERY fine black powder that just permeates everything, and you can’t wipe or rinse it off. Gotta have a thorough shower with soap before going home. The smell, heat and sheer dirtiness of that place was just awful. And yeah, ky196, I know all about the black snot!

Not trying to one up. The one job on that furnace I dreaded more than anything, was replacing the sticks. They were electric furnaces, used carbon grafite probes with high voltage current arcing to melt the steel. After the furnaces got tapped, periodically the sticks had to be replaced. You had to climb up onto of these furnaces and a crane would hoist these stick over the top of the old ones and you had to screw new ones on top of the old ones. The holes that the sticks went down through had enough of a gap between the sticks that if you were in the direct path of the heat, ouch!!! We wore welders green suits, but I got some serious burns doing that.

I had a real good friend of mine who was terrible about that. Dated a girl for close to ten years and never married her. I told him a number of times that he wasn’t doing her or her kids any favors. He wasn’t intentionally stringing her along – he is just that way – wishy washy and indecisive. It’s kind of bad when her kids start calling you “daddy”.
