There’s No Top 10 Because APRIL FOOL’S DAY

The title of today’s post is probably the best joke you’ll hear on April Fool’s Day.  That’s how sad the annual day of pranks and jokes has become.  An attempt at humor misses the mark more times than not.  If you were contemplating a prank, think again.  It’ll probably end up being terrible.  If you were thinking about posting a pic of a hand adorned with an engagement ring or an ultrasound of a baby on Facebook, stop.  It was funny the first time somebody freaked out their parents five years ago.  It’s not funny anymore.

For everyone that must suffer through terrible pranks, at least you have KSR.

Derek Willis’ Perfect All-Star Game

In his final collegiate game, Derek Willis earned MVP honors for the West Team at the College Basketball All-Star Game by racking up 13 points, 8 rebounds, a block and a steal in Phoenix.  The first Wildcat to ever play in the game, Willis set the bar high for his successors.

The UConn women’s basketball team had won 111-games in a row, including a 60-point Sweet 16 blowout of Mississippi State in 2016, until last night.  The Bulldogs avenged that loss at the buzzer to dethrone a dynasty.

The Bulldogs will play South Carolina in a SEC National Championship Sunday night.

The Final Four Begins Tonight

I know many of you will ignore it because the Cats aren’t playing, but I am not too bitter to watch basketball.  It’s been a week.  I can move on (kind of).  Besides, if South Carolina wins I will be watching the championship game in Columbia with a bunch of rowdy Gamecocks.  Go Cocks.

  • South Carolina vs. Gonzaga at 6:09
  • North Carolina vs. Oregon at 8:49

Allen Edwards Earns Hardware

In his first season as the head coach at Wyoming, the two-time Kentucky National Champion led Wyoming to the CBI Championship, defeating Coastal Carolina 83-59 in the third and final game of the series.  A Wyoming assistant for five years before becoming the head coach, the Cowboys finished 23-15 in his first year.

UK Baseball is Rolling Through the SEC

A team that wasn’t projected to do much in Nick Mingione’s first season blew out Vanderbilt 10-3 last night at The Cliff.  The BatCats have won 12 of their last 13 and now stand atop of the SEC East standings.

They’ll try to win the series today at 2:00 p.m. at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

Spring Football Scrimmage

Today might be the most important day of Spring Practice.  Unfortunately, we will not be able to see today’s scrimmage, but we will hear from Coach Stoops around noon.  However, there are a few recruits who will be able to see the scrimmage, most notably Alex Reigelsperger and his Wayne High School teammate, L’Christian “Blue” Smith.

While you’re waiting for updates, listen to today’s Depth Chart Podcast.

Tiger Woods Will Not Play The Masters

For those who actually thought he might participate in a tradition unlike any other, I wish I could be so optimistic.

A Podcast Recommendation

Before departing from Chicago, my Twitter feed mentioned a new seven-part podcast series “S-Town.”  I didn’t know much about it.  Set in the south and produced by Serial and This American Life, I knew it had to be pretty good.  It’s better than “pretty good.”

I made it through three episodes and it’s been on my mind since Thursday.  The compelling storytelling and peculiar characters have me hooked.  There’s already been a ton of twists and turns in this emotional roller coaster.  I’m saving the final four for a long drive on Monday.  Waiting that long might kill me.

Winter is Coming

This wait is even worse.  The new Game of Thrones’ trailer is teased so well it hurts.  Normally the show premiers on Final Four Sunday.  Cersei’s last cold breath makes me hate that there will be three more long months until the return of the best show on television.

For those asking about Kentucky Thrones Radio, don’t worry. We’ll get the ball rolling well before the first episode of season seven.

If UNCheats win the title, I will only watch UK basketball, football, and baseball the remainder of my life, and no other college sports…unless the NCAA makes UNCheats, at a minimum, vacate the 2005 and 2009 banner, have a five year ban from the tournament, and 10 years of probation.

UK broke rules nearly 30 and 70 years ago and paid an heavy price.

I have been following UK basketball since the 1965-66 season. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have been told by UNCheat fans how dirty my school was, how UK only won by cheating, and that UNCheat was far superior in every way and they were the shining example of how you could succeed at the highest level of academics and athletics without breaking the rules.

We now all know different. Dean E. Smith was the architect of the greatest fraud and scandal in NCAA history…the Carolina Way. It appears they are going to get away with it.

I am done with college athletics except for UK..No more. It frees up a lot time to enjoy reading, play golf, and enjoy my wife, children, and grandchildren.

So if not for Higgins, we could have had all-SEC men’s and women’s finals in Bball. More shame on him.
