By now, you’ve probably heard that Pearl Jam played Rupp Arena last night, and apparently, rocked it. One of the guitarists sported a UK t-shirt and lead singer Eddie Vedder even thanked John Calipari and the Cats, telling the crowd, “Man, that’s a lot of banners” as a spotlight shone on the championship banners in the rafters. Pretty cool, right?

Also cool: these custom painted basketballs that Paul Hooper and the Rupp Arena crew gave Pearl Jam to commemorate the occasion. The balls were painted by True Blue Customs, who previously collaborated with Willie Cauley-Stein on a pair of custom “Team Blake” sneakers to be auctioned off for charity:

Well, last night @pearljam came and rocked the house at @rupp_arena, and I was asked to do a special project for them, an artist gift that would be given to the band members and management team to commemorate the date. Thanks to my guy @paulmhooper for the opportunity…it was truly one of the coolest projects I've been blessed to be a part of. ——————————————- 🔵🔵[email protected]🔵🔵 I do not discuss pricing on IG,,,email me for a custom or restoration quote. #nicekicks #igsneakercommunity #kickstagram #kicksonfire #complexkicks #nikenate #angelus #angelusdirect #kykickfest #859approved #jfk45 #bluegrassgotsole #msxsneakers #kotd #swiftkickz #kicksordie #aceofcustoms #sneakerfiles #walklikeus #kingofsneakers #airlegends #truebluecustoms #kicksfeed #customkicks #sneakershoutouts #lacedsociety #aceofcustoms #louisvillesneakerhead #pearljam #mookieblaylock

Actually, he said “Man, that’s a lot of flags”. That’s cool though, they aren’t from around here, it was a great concert. He also commented that the “flags” help the acoustics.

Not to be overly cynical (too late), but why? What are they supposed to do with them? Are they going to display them in their homes to commemorate that time they played at Rupp Arena during one of their many tours?

“one of the guitarists”? Mike McCready. He’s pretty awesome. You should check him out.
And yes, they did rock Rupp Arena to the rafters and back. Several times.
