The reviews of the Lexington fireworks show are not kind

Last night, the Downtown Lexington Partnership held its annual fireworks show and, well, the reviews are not kind. The fireworks were shot off the top of the 31-story Lexington Financial Center for the first time, but according to social media, it wasn’t any better than your average neighborhood fireworks show.

Video, from @AlexSlitzPhoto:

As you can see, people were underwhelmed:

There are multiple threads about it on Reddit:

Were these the worst fireworks in the history of Lexington? from lexington

UPDATE: Mayor Jim Gray says the city will now review the fireworks show to see what went wrong.

Years ago my wife and I used to get a hotel room downtown on a high floor just to watch the fireworks from there. Sounds like nobody is bothering now with these reviews. Even the smaller cities in the state probably outdid them.

    “I want more fireworks!”

“Do you want to pay more taxes?”

Aren’t fireworks shows usually sponsored? I live in Charlotte and I’m pretty sure none of the several fireworks shows that happened Tuesday and Wednesday night in and around the city cost taxpayers a nickel. And they were all great – or so I’ve heard, I only saw one.

“I am embarrassed to live in Lexington.”

If you are embarrassed to live in Lexington because of fireworks, then do us all a favor and move.

Firebrook always puts on a great show, much better than the city.

I don’t live in Lexington and honestly don’t know but can someone answer my question as to how much you had to pay to watch the fireworks show? I mean for people to be this upset they had to pay for it and feel they didn’t get their money’s worth. I mean they surely are not this upset about something that cost them nothing right?

If I had to make a guess, I would say the fireworks budget was slashed, because they had to pay to remove long standing statues in the middle of downtown, in the middle of the night. Got to have your priorities straight, the desires of few always outweigh the majority in Lexington.
