Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

The Quaker State 400’s Saturday Morning Wakeup

Kentucky’s second biggest sporting event will take place today in Sparta when Kentucky Speedway plays host to NASCAR’s Quaker State 400. Over 100,000 racing fans (or beer fans) will pack the 1,000-acre speedway in Gallatin County for the 7:30 p.m. Sprint Cup race and the Kentucky Sports Radio crew will be in the middle of the madness. (I will not be joining them, however.)

Brad Keselowski took the title two of the last three years and he looks to repeat today for a third crown. I don’t know anything about the sport, but I’ll take the field. Actually, Give me Dick Trickle. I’ll take him. He still races, right?

Anyway, it’s a big day for the state, so be proud or whatever.

The Peach Jam continues.

The UK coaching staff will be back in the gym in about an hour for the first round of games beginning at 9:00 am. Last night Calipari wrapped up his evening watching Harry Giles in a packed gymnasium. He took a peek at Jayson Tatum, too, although that ship may have already sailed.

Plenty more to come today and tomorrow.

More Cats in Summer League action today.

Last night we saw the debuts of Willie Cauley-Stein and Karl-Anthony Towns with their new teams, plus DeAndre Liggins, Doron Lamb and Julius Randle. Towns and Randle will play again today, as will Devin Booker, Archie Goodwin, Josh Harrellson and Trey Lyles.

Here’s today’s schedule; games on NBA TV in italics…

3 p.m. — New Orleans vs. Dallas (Miller)
3:30 p.m. — New York vs. San Antonio
6 p.m. — Washington vs. Phoenix (Booker, Goodwin, Harrellson)
6:30 p.m. — Chicago vs. Minnesota (Towns)
8 p.m. — Boston (Young) vs. Portland
8:30 p.m. — L.A. Lakers (Randle) vs. Philadelphia
10 p.m. — Brooklyn vs. Cleveland
10:30 p.m. — Miami vs. Utah (Lyles)

All games are streamed online through NBA Summer League Live.

Reggie Miller was killing me last night.

Miller was my childhood hero but he drove me absolutely nuts last night on the Lakers-Timberwolves broadcast when he repeatedly said “Anthony Towns.”

That’s not his name, Reggie. It’s Karl-Anthony Town, Karl Towns, Towns, Karl, or Karl-Anthony — not Anthony Towns.

I think Drake Jackson has been in 500 fights at The Opening.

We shared a couple clips yesterday and here’s another if those weren’t enough…

That one was from Thursday.

Did you say you wanted a picture of Sebastian Bach doing three goggles?

Well here you go…

Now it’s time for me to tee off in the Southwest Nelson Football Golf Scramble in Bardstown.

Or what I like to call drinking all day with golf clubs.

Happy Saturday.

Love Drake’s nastiness and attitude of not backing down….love it! I just hope he has the work ethic in the weight room to be great. We are going to have one hell of an offensive line in the coming years. I would love to see Stoops maybe reach out to Guy Morris to come in and help coach the line. Now if we can just find studs on the D-line to be able to actually stop somebody…we might have something special brewing in KY. Call me excited for football for the first time in a long long time.

Always enjoy my time in Kentucky. The land of bad football and over hyped basketball. Great game against Wisconsin.

Hey now. Watch what your saying. The football team is way more hyped than the basketball team.

    • Is the first or second one the number of convicted felons on the squad? 😉

Nope. It’s the record of your over-hyped little league coach. But, you should definitely keep thinking he’s the savior of your weak-ass team.

Wisconsin was good for one whole season! Congrats! Now enjoy sucking for the next 20 years again. Come back in two decades when your team manages to be relevant again.

Drake Jackson may become my favorite UK football player of all-time…sorry Mr Cobb. 20 more pounds on a guy with that kind of attitude and spirit will make him truly unstoppable.

I wish I had the time in life to visit opponent’s fan sites and engage in unmitigated douchebaggery…oh wait, no I don’t wish that.

  4. Love the Drake!

Dick Trickle commited suicide in 2013. RIP.

    • I thought he had died, but I had forgotten that. Not a NASCAR guy, and I have a feeling Drew isn’t either or he wouldn’t have said that (I hope). If he did know, that comment was not cool.

I’m sure Drew meant no ill will or no offense, but yes, Dick Trickle committed suicide a few years back. Whether you are a NASCAR fan or not, this article is a must-read:

Very well written article about not just a driver, but the struggle of a truly good man. RIP

Dick Trickle sounds like a symptom of a venereal disease.
