I wonder if Papa will be in the house? Cal and him are good friends right, but not Rick and Papa?

I bet they won’t do the CATS45 this coming year after 38 straight wins lol. I used it A LOT too.

Coach Cal would be nearly impossible to replace with a comparable coach.

Matt just listed 3 coaches as potential replacements: Gregg Marshall (Wichita State), Sean Miller (Arizona), and Mark Few (Gonzaga). None of them have ever been to a final four. No thanks.

Ugh, I plan to appreciate Cal for as long as we have him, then brace myself for a drastic change in quality.

    • I see your point J-Dub, but they’ve all won a lot of games. I’m afraid that most coaches that have been to the final four would bolt college for the NBA before they would take the UK job.

Also, we need a coach who will embrace the pressure like Cal has done, and those are few and far between. It apparently got to Tubby, and we all know BCG was never the right guy for the job. As good a job as Barnhart has done in hiring most coaches, I don’t know how he fell flat on his face and hired that guy.

Agreed about being able to handle the media and pressure, etc. I can forgive Barnhart the BCG mistake. He’s knocked it out of the park with most of his coaching hires. As far as AZ, Gonzaga, and Wichita winning a lot of games, they should win a lot of games. They all play in fairly weak conferences.

    • True. It may be that some coach we’ve never even heard of will have come out of the woodwork by the time Cal retires. We shall see, but I just hope it isn’t any time soon!

I think UK basketball being the high profile job it is, would be easier to find a higher level of talent. So, I think Cal would be the easier of the two to replace. Stoops is doing something no one else has been able to do. Can anyone else have this level of impact on recruiting and fan interest?

Yes…Any coach that could actually win. KSR is responsible for the hype and fan interest of football, not Stoops! Stoops is simply an overpaid coach averaging 3 wins a year.

“Reality”, do you really not understand that NO ONE has ever recruited as well here as Stoops? What he’s doing is unprecedented.

    • WRONG, Reality!!! It’s 3.5 buddy!!! 😉

Seriously, way try to make your point with a sample size that is all of 2 years.

Stoops more than doubled his win total from year 1 to year 2. Try giving Stoops a little time reality. You can’t rebuild a football team with one recruiting class like you can in basketball. Stoops is the right guy for this job, and I would hate to lose him.

That said, Cal is irreplaceable. There are only a few coaches in college basketball that are on Cal’s level, and they’re all at major programs that they are not going to leave. Anyone who comes in after Cal will be a big step down.

Unprecedented? His two yrs of coaching has produced the same record as the Joker before him. Could all this improvement just be in your mind? Unless we are hanging banners for ohio recruits…we are the same ole Football program

This is Stoops 3rd season. Joker left the football program in shambles. You cannot build a football program in 1 year.

Chris—- I would love to provide a larger sample size, but considering we are paying 3+ million/yr to a guy that had never coached before….. It’s hard to obtain the data required.

We won 2 games in Stoops first season, but won 5 games last season. We are making progress, but we’re not going to suddenly become Alabama overnight. You’re going to have to learn some patience.

    • That’s my point. He’s only been at UK 2 years, and like J-Dub said, the program was a disaster when he took over and you can’t do in 1 year what Cal did. Freddie Maggard, who knows more than all KSR writers and commenters combined, says our talent (or lack thereof) level was Sun Belt level, and not only that, that we were MID-level Sun Belt. WKU pretty much proved that.

If Cal says losing a game would have eased the pressure and made them less likely to lose their minds at the end of the Wisconsin game, then I’ll choose to believe him, as he was their coach all season after all. I’d think he would know. If he says some of them were relieved to have the extremely high profile season over with, again, he would know. That doesn’t mean they were okay with losing, it just means a high stress situation ended.

Drug Dealers listen to WKRD radio

  11. Even a lot of land lines are now VOIP, so if internet is down so is the land line.

Maybe we should all have a CB radio as a backup in case of natural disasters, or even terrorism. Walkie talkies also.

  12. Someone explain to Matt there is a reason they call it the WORLD WIDE Web. If you don’t want it known publicly, don’t put it on Periscope or anything else on the WORLD WIDE Web.

It’s the same principle as don’t put anything on Facebook, etc. that will get you fired.

    • Oh, and if he’s not careful, some of it will wind up on Youtube. All some tech savvy person has to do is turn on a screen recorder when Matt is broadcasting on Telescope (as Freddie Maggard calls it).
