The Anthony Davis comparisons continue with Skal Labissiere

Ever since Skal Labissiere popped up on UK’s radar a few years back, people have likened him to Anthony Davis, and while that may not be fair considering Davis is an absolute superstar, the comparisons continued this weekend after Skal’s strong showing at the Nike Hoop Summit. In his five takeaways from the event, ESPN’s Paul Biancardi describes Skal’s game and quotes an NBA GM who compares him with Davis.
Kentucky signee Skal Labissiere (No. 3 in ESPN 100) solidified his ranking by showing a face-up jumper with a high release point that creates a high trajectory for his shot. His shot-blocking presence protects the rim as he made a beautiful block on a switch out with seconds to go in the game and the USA team trying to tie it.
“He reminds me of how Anthony Davis was at the same stage,” one NBA general manager said. “Same body type and the same growth spurt, but not as athletic and not quite the shot blocker as Davis but a better shooter.”
Biancardi also praises Jamal Murray, a four-star shooting guard from Canada who turned heads at the event. Kentucky reached out to Murray, and we’ll have more on him on the site in oh…thirty minutes or so.

the murray kid looks pretty good according to his highlights as well as hanging 30 last night. Smooth jumper nice handle and decent athleticism. If he doesnt blow up and become crazy big and stays in the 2016 class he could be a great back up/different look from ulis that year and come on strong in a sophomore campaign.
Murray and Maker play together now……..and maybe later at UK..?
Neither UK commit started and weren’t fast off the bench. I thought Skal took advantage of his opportunites, but was not at all dominant. Him and Zimmerman got pushed around, but both have skills and would make a nice 1-2 punch when playing together. I expected more from Thon Maker, but he is filled out and would not get pushed around and is a full 7′. Either guy would help next year.
