Tai Wynyard leads New Zealand to 11th place finish with 85-69 win over Egypt

On the final day of 2017 FIBA U19 World Cup competition, New Zealand defeated the host team Egypt by a final score of 85-69. With the win, New Zealand ends the tournament in 11th place.

 

Kentucky rising sophomore Tai Wynyard led the Junior Tall Blacks with 17 points on 8-of-13 (.615) shooting, complemented by 10 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in almost 30 minutes as a starter.

 

With only the gold and bronze medal matches left to be played, Wynyard ranks among the top 10 of all World Cup players in several statistical categories. The 6-foot-10 19-year-old stands at second in field-goal percentage (.606) and blocks per game (2.0), third in two-point-field-goal percentage (.606), fourth in total points (100) and double-doubles (3), sixth in points per game (14.3) and efficiency per game (19.6), and ninth in rebounds per game (9.3).
