Swiss Skydiver will be the Second Filly to ever run in the Blue Grass Stakes

The boys of summer will be joined by a filly in Saturday’s Toyota Blue Grass Stakes.

Swiss Skydiver will become just the second filly to ever race in Keeneland’s top stakes race when the horses enter the gate at approximately 5:30 p.m. ET  for the Grade II Kentucky Derby prep race. First ran in Keeneland’s inaugural 1937 spring meet, a filly has not entered the field since Harriet Sue ran with the boys in 1944.

Trained by Kenny McPeek, Swiss Skydiver has won three straight graded stakes races and currently sits atop the leaderboard in the road to the Kentucky Oaks standings with 310 points, three times more than second place Bonny South. She will be a 3-1 morning line favorite with Mike Smith aboard in her first test against the boys.

A win would secure the filly a spot in the Derby, with the top four finishers earning prep race points (100-40-20-10). One of her top contenders is Basin, Ricardo Asmussen’s two-time two-year-old champ that recently finished second in the Arkansas Derby. Rushie comes to the Blue Grass after a third place finish in the Santa Anita Derby and Enforceable boasts an impressive win at the G3 Lecomte.
