It’s official. According to ESPN, Charlie Strong will accept the University of Texas head coaching job. According to Andrew Lopez of, LSU is the new leader for 4-star defensive tackle Travonte Valentine. The New York Times had an excellent article on LPGA Golfer, Mallory Blackwelder. Blackwelder, a proud Kentucky girl and participant in Golf Channel’s Big Break series had the details of her life chronicled by writer Lisa D. Mickey. Topics of discussion included her professional golf career, recent marriage, and the relationship with her parents.

If there’s one thing in this world that John Calipari doesn’t mind, it’s talking about his basketball program, or talking about anything for that matter. Recently, he took some time out of his busy schedule to answer some of the fans’ most pressing questions on his website, The main topic of discussion this time around was the teaching of life habits.

Guys? What are you thinking putting that gif up. I realize some of the UK fans (the super zealous minority that make all of us look bad) may love it and also that those fans are the ones you cater to, but come on…..this is 2014 you are still perpetuating a demeaning racial slur through this gif. Remember, we have minority players on our team too. Are you saying that about them too?

Can we think about things before we put them up sometimes? Can we not identify ourselves with a bit more class than what is depicted here? I, for one, think the program is set back when things like this are done.

And Ricky Bobby from Talladega Nights perpetuates mean and hurtful stereotypes about white, Southerners. That’s also rude and offensive.

You can get offended at just about anything if you try hard enough. Maybe instead you should just develop a sense of humor, or ignore things like this that bother you. Your whining rant just makes you look pathetic.

There is a reason Charlie Strong is the first African-American to coach a major football team in Texas. To me, the gif represents the racism that still exists in Texas. Many of the boosters are not going to be happy that Charlie got hired. Because of that, I hope he succeeds.

Loserville is about to move to another third rate conference (which they seem to do every other year) once again without a coach. They’ve been DAMN lucky, TOO LUCKY, in fact, to get some of the coaches they’ve gotten, especially with the inherent INSTABILITY of their program and it’s SEC envy…

At Kentucky, we ARE in the SEC, and we have a Stoops coaching our football program. Bright days are ahead!

People, people, people. Relax. Should the poster have thought harder about that GIF before posting it? Yeah, probably. But saying it “sets back the program” is absurd. KSR is a blog site and not part of the UK athletics program and any preconceived notions about UK fans being racist that have been spouted for years have not had one iota of effect on our ability to recruit players. I doubt this re-posting of a silly GIF is going to tip the scale and make UK the KKK of the college sports world. Quit being such pansies.

UL fans reminded me of a guy who has a girlfriend that cheated on them, they find out about and cannot except it. They go in denial about it, they get mad at people that tell them they saw them out together. They say they are so much in love that they will never break-up. Even when they find out it is true, they profess their love to the girlfriend, and say they will forgive them if they come back. When the ex-girlfriend has the last “we have to talk” talk, it still blows them away. Face it UL, Strong is just not that into you.

Texas thought they were going to hire a top notch coach hence the “Welcome Harbaugh” sign. When I’m arguing with my fellow fans on this blog, sometimes I think back to the old Gene Wilder line: “What did you expect? “Welcome, sonny”? “Make yourself at home”? “Marry my daughter”? Okay guys, I live in Austin. I find the GIF offensive, but not for the reasons one would expect. First, Harbaugh was not the first choice of “the people” here. That would be … wait for it … Nick Saban. If the LSU fan that created the thing knew anything the sign would say Saban. Second, Charlie Strong is not likely to get lynched coming here. He is very highly thought of around here and people are excited to have him.

Personally, I have mixed feelings. I’m glad Louisville is looking for a new coach. Maybe they will be lucky enough to find another Kragthorpe. On the other hand, I like the Longhorns and don’t know how I feel about a successful Louisville coach coming in.

This Is nonsense. All of you that buy the race baiting victimization stop. It is getting out of hand. We finally got a black guy in the whitehouse that was elected by a majority of white folk. That was a good thing, I thought, for race relations in this country. I was mistaken, the commander and chief has the white/black divide as wide as it’s been since Martin Luther King straightened it out–we could really use his wisdom today. NAACP , ACLU. Need all of you to be outraged at nothing so they can pay the bills by saddling minorities with victim hood and throwing out personal responsibility.

What will the east coast and west coast think of BBN? Who gives a great horned owl’s ass what they think? You can be outraged, give yourself a switching and donate next months paycheck to the United Negro College Fund. As long as you are from ky you will be labeled a hillbilly, one tooth having, racist from birth being, inbred supporting, moonshine guzzling redneck. Embrace it people.

If you are truly offended don’t log on to ksr anymore. Same as I don’t listen to rap because the “n” word annoys me. They can sing it all they like I just ain’t gonna listen to it.

You’re a simplistic idiot who should take his own advice. If KSR comments offend you, maybe you’re the one that shouldn’t read them. When did MLK straighten out race relations? He had to have “a dream” because of ignorant bigots that were in denial, such as yourself.

  39. Livin' in the 'ville
    5:06 pm January 5, 2014 Permalink

Here’s the problem. “Blazing Saddles” was Mel Brooks’ parody on racism (in other words, he was making fun of racists.). But when KSR applies the movie clip to Charlie Strong and Texas, it’s no longer parody and it comes across as racist. I’m sure it was unintentional, but now it’s out there . . . and it’s no excuse that you guys have to struggle to come up with good content each day!

And there’s a bigger problem. There are thousands of BBN haters out there that would love to paint us all as a bunch of biggots. That’s ridiculous of course–and there are many UK “firsts” to prove it–but stuff like this just gives the haters something to say. Humor is a great journalistic tool, but before posting you must always think about how it’s going to be received. Come on, KSR . . . you’re better than this.

Some of you dumb asses need to learn what a satire is, then you need to learn how it is used to deliver a message. Blazing Saddles is a satire, and LSUFreek is a satirist. The damn .gif was funny, and highly appropriate under the circumstances.

Anyone who is unfamiliar with LSUfreek’s gifs probably shouldn’t even be making a post. He isn’t just some random fan making a .gif, the guy has pretty much reached legendary status. He is the modern version of a satirist, and he’s as much a part of College Football these days as the ball itself.
