In the mid 90’s the Lexington Herald engaged a young blogger about linking anything to the Herald. He was just a little person who very few people knew very much about. That attitude is something I noticed again this morning. The Herald has decided to try to earn a little money by charging a minimal subscription fee. The paper just hasn’t learned a valuable lesson about how the internet works. It works because there is freedom of information and if the information doesn’t come from one place we simply find another. Advertising on the internet is their avenue and if they don’t earn enough it’s because someone isn’t working hard enough. I would assume that pages like KSR are tickled to death when the Herald makes decisions like this. I’m sure that KSR and other sources will take full advantage of the mistake and sell advertisements that could have been directed to the Herald. Move into the new generation, Lexington Herald. I don’t have to read your stories, and I surely won’t pay for them.
