It’s the headline we knew was coming. Tom Currie of Aukland, New Zealand quit his job as a barrister/bartender to play Pokemon full-time. Shocker; he didn’t provide two-weeks’ notice.
“When I resigned, I didn’t tell my manager I was going out into the world to hunt Pokemon,” he told the BBC. “But after my story got picked up I gave him a courtesy call to update him just in case the media contacted him.”
Most of Currie’s friends support him on his quest, but his parents aren’t quite on the same page. His dad is using humor to deal with it. “I always knew you’d be famous,” he told his son via text. What a way to be famous.
The nerdiest line of the article…
“When you and your friends have to physically go for a walk or run to catch a rare Pokemon in the area and you all catch it, that is definitely a highlight.”
Currie has been pretty successful so far, catching 91 of the 151 characters throughout New Zealand’s countryside. He plans on returning to work when his trip is done, but can he catch ’em all? I sure hope not.
