Skyline Chili coming to Lexington

In news that makes Matt Jones very happy, Skyline Chili is expanding to Lexington.

According to the Herald-Leader, a new outpost of the Cincinnati-based chili restaurant is coming to 2850 Richmond Road, close to the New Circle Road exit. Skyline prides itself on Cincinnati-style chili, which includes cinnamon, chocolate, allspice, and Worcestershire sauce and is served atop a bed of noodles with an absurd amount of shredded cheese. Personally, I’m not a fan, but I know many of you are, so rock on.

No word on when it will open, but I’m sure Matt will first in line.

Gold Star is great. Skyline is good. I’m with ya Kychopsticks. I lived in Florence for a couple of years. Big fan of Gold Star.

Saying Gold Star is better than Skyline is like saying Moonlite is better than Old Hickory.

Cinnamon and chocolate should not be in chili.

You would be skinned alive if you showed up in Texas with chili and noodles. It is an abomination against nature.

That’s great. Ohio and Kentucky were states before Texas.

If you want Cincy style chili, get Dixie and hold the noodles. Chili ain’t meant to be served on noodles, and Dixie Chili is delicious

Otherwise, go for southwestern style over Cincinnati style – the cinnamon, chocolate, Worcestershire sauce and allspice are actually mimicking the savory taste of smoked chili peppers – the real thing done right has a little bit of the sweetness with a little bit of heat. In case you didn’t know, smoking a pepper cuts some of its heat.

The recipe I have uses green Tabasco sauce which has the peppery flavor without a lot of heat.

Agreed. Cincinnati style chili blows Texas out of the water. I do like a little added hot sauce though.

Didn’t LEX used to have one? I think there was one on campus when I was at UK in the early 90’s.

There was one at the corner of Rose and The Ave. of Champions. I believe Bangkok House is now. It went out of business.
