With Florida playing below its talent level, down a pair of key players on each side of the ball, and coming off a couple of ugly games the last two weeks, combined with the fact that Kentucky is playing surprisingly well given the circumstances, will be playing in Commonwealth Stadium in front of what we expect to be a charged-up crowd, the conditions are right for the long losing streak to end. So much so that Dick Vitale, Mike Bianchi, and Kirk Herbstreit all believe there is a smell of “upset” in the air.
Of course you have been reading about it all week, we have been over why and how it could transpire, and in the end all we’re really looking for is to get better every week. After all, Florida is a nationally ranked team, and Kentucky is… Well, they’re still Kentucky.
Coach Stoops has his guys playing at a level we haven’t seen here in Lexington in a while. I know there are a lot of Negative Nancy’s around here, but tonight could be fun if you let be.
— Florida quarterback Tyler Murphy will try to make the most out of the injury to Jeff Driskel. And that’s saying something considering plenty of people in Gainesville never expected him to play.
— Kentucky’s pass rush and run containment will be key in tonight’s contest, and freshman Jason Hatcher will have a huge opportunity to make a mark of this program early in his career.
— It has kind of gone overlooked, but this will be the return of Joker Phillips to Commonwealth Stadium. While he won’t be the head man patrolling on the side lines, it will be interesting to see the dynamic between him and the fans.
— Alligator Army has an offensive scouting report of the Wildcats, and it seems there is some concern about stopping the run.
— As a note for basketball fans: The UK Hoops team had added five additional games to its television slate this season, including home games against Central Michigan, Louisville, East Tennessee State, South Carolina, and the Rupp Arena “Pack the House” game versus Duke.
