Rivals analysts make predictions for Bamba

In a new set of questions for the Rivals Roundtable, basketball recruiting analysts Eric Bossi, Corey Evans and Krysten Peek made their updated predictions for Mohamed Bamba’s future.

And bad news for Kentucky fans who trust the trio’s opinions: two of the three picked Texas.

Eric Bossi was the only one in John Calipari’s corner, but even he seemed hesitant to pick the Cats. “There is a lot of buzz about Texas right now and the Longhorns are certainly in a good spot,” Bossi wrote in his prediction. “However, I’m still hearing just enough rumblings to stick with my prediction of Kentucky and if the Wildcats do land him it would be yet another testament to what John Calipari can do in recruiting.”

The one thing they all seemed to agree on is that Duke and Michigan are running third and fourth, behind Kentucky and Texas.

No way Bamba picks Texas over UK…. Just NOT happening. He seems like waay too smart of a kid to do something that dumb.

If Kevin Knox taught us anything, it’s that these guys don’t really know. Is Bamba from Texas? I can’t think of any other reason to lean that way.

      I think he’s from NY.

Jarrett Allen did OK at Texas and coach Cal recruited Marques Bolden over Allen. Your right about what Knox taught us, I’m not ready to count Duke or Michigan out, yet.

True. We were third or fourth for Knox…

I just don’t see ANYTHING that Texas can offer as a basketball program that would exceed or even come close to what he would get by playing at Kentucky.

Bamba may choose Texas, if he wants to be the star! If that is the case, he would not fit in at KY. My bet is that he becomes a Wildcat. We will know in a couple of weeks. My only anxiety is that big dominant centers have not come our way very often.

      Boogie, Davis, Towns ?

Lol, UK has gotten by far the best big men in the Cal era. As Katz mentioned, Davis, Towns, and Cousins are three of the top big men in the NBA. Not to mention Noel and WCS.

I think what Ben means is that he’s THE guy at Texas while he’s A guy on a whole team of equally talented guys here

Cousins is the only one close to Bamba! Davis, Towns, Noel and WCSS were not physically overbearing in high school. They were great players who developed more at and after their time at KY. Bamba is more on the line of Shack, then a power forward. Like Cousins, he should dominate from day one.

      5:13 pm May 16, 2017 Permalink

LOL where do you get your logic Towns and Davis were superstars at KY. Anthony won every award including the wooden and final 4 MOP award as a freshman, then off to being the top pick. Name another Freshman who’s accomplished more than that. Cousins is definitely the lesser of the 3, Bamba is the least of all 4, his offensive game is RAW!…. What are you talking about??

Texas did not get a single recruit in the Top 40, he will have no one to play with at Texas. He might as well pick North Dakota State! I think this is all Fake News, where did the experts say Knox was going? I don’t think Knox, Green and Richards will let him go some place else, I say he will be at UK!

You guys are missing the point. This is a relationship-driven business – recruits go places because they like the people they’ll be playing with and have developed relationships with them through HS, AAU and other opportunities, but they also commit to schools because they have a relationship with the coach and they like the coach’s personality.

Texas isn’t much of a basketball school, it’s true, but I can’t think of many coaches I find more likable than Shaka Smart. Furthermore, Bamba has already played for Smart at some point in his career. It makes perfect sense that he’s considering Texas, and I would not be at all surprised if he were to pick Texas over UK, Duke and Michigan based on his relationship with Coach Smart.

Watch a Shaka practice and see how likeable he is. Gillispie on steroids.

Well if he wants to play in the NIT then he will go to Texas. If he wants to compete for a national title then he comes to UK, it’s sounds idiotic to even be having this discussion. Kids these days and he is suppose to be a smart recruit. I don’t get it, is it because of academics? Texas is certainly not Harvard, it’s not even close to Michigan or Duke 2 schools that are on his list. I’m tired of the anticipation with him and Hami, let’s get it over with already. If Hami want to enter the draft then enter the draft, if Mo wants to go to Texas then go to Texas. I’m ready to get the roster settled already.

You sound so demanding, is this your world and they’re living in it? And to say kids these days… You know you are commenting on a decision thats going to be made by a kid, and you say kids these days? Some people that comment on this site sound like kids themselves! The way people cry on here because they dont get their way is pretty weird to me. Respect his decision and move on, dont make the young man sound like hes stupid if he chooses to go to Texas. You act like this is easy for them to make, they arent UK fans that grow up wearing blue and white from birth that are in love with the school, this isnt something they can just say, oh this guy thats on KSRs message board wants me to choose now and get it over with so he can move on in life. Get a grip people, drink some reality filled kool aide and chill out. His decision isnt even made yet and youre already freaking out on something you have ZERO control over.

The Cats are going to be ridiculously good by the time March rolls around whether Bamba comes to UK or not, if he does decide to play here we’ll be scary good though

And these same guys said Knox was 87% to Duke and 13% to UNC with UK having NO CHANCE at landing Knox…..if Cal is the UK coach then we always have the best chance of landing a kid no matter what those clowns say.

I can only think to two reasons why he would choose Texas over UK.

    1. He’s concerned about playing time at UK.
    2. Texas is providing an insane amount of benefits.

If he’s as good as everyone thinks, he will be the one asking to come out after sprinting up and down the court. Kentucky Wildcats don’t jog up and down the court, it will be a faster pace than he has ever been part of, he’d better be in shape.

He could have any number of reasons for picking whatever school he decides on, but they are his reasons. He may be more turned on by taking a team that doesn’t have elite status and carrying them to greater heights (unlike UK which will be great with or without him). Shaka has some nice pieces coming back and the Longhorns are looking to turn the corner this season. He would be the man their and simply another piece in the puzzle in Lexington. He may like the climate more in Austin than Lexington. He may like not living/playing under the microscope that is Kentucky Hoops. Like Cal says, :Its not for everybody: I hope we get the kid because I do believe he can be a difference maker but I wont be shocked if he goes somewhere else. How can anyone be shocked by decisions made by 18 year olds?. Regardless the pundits are basically guessers and my guess is he wants to be as comfortable as possible away from home and that seems to be more likely where he already knows some of his teammates and has strong relationships…so I’m guessin Lex.

As someone mentioned, he may have a strong relationship with Shaka Smart. Honestly, it doesn’t matter where he goes as far as an individual player. He’ll most likely get drafted about the same. If he wants to win, he’ll come to UK though.

Many people, my self included, forget Shaka is at Texas. They’ll all be talking about Shaka in the next couple of years. Just give him time.

If he ends up choosing Texas over UK or as bad as I hate to say it Duke….then that tells me all I need to know about the kid. He obviously wants to be 100% “the man” with no real challenge or competition and that he also doesn’t really care about winning at the NCAA level. I hope that I’m bad wrong but I mean COME ON! TEXAS?!? TEXAS BASKETBALL?!? I mean really? 😂
