Rick Pitino writing checks his ass can’t cash

Rick Pitino picked up a commitment from Jordan Nwora, the No. 21 small forward in the class, Wednesday morning. Good for him and all that. (Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)

But what’s interesting, and hilarious, is, Nwora said his decision to join the Cardinals’ recruiting class came down to a promise from Rick Pitino to put him in the league “fast.”

From Adam Zagoria:

“They told me I could come in and make a big impact right away and play a lot of minutes as a freshman,” Nwora said Wednesday by phone. “Coach [Rick] Pitino said he knows for sure that he can get me to the league [NBA] fast. So him and Coach [Kenny] Johnson made it clear that I would be able to come in and make an impact right away and play a lot and get to the league. [ZagsBlog]

Now that is laugh out loud funny. Pitino telling kids he can put them in the league, fast? What happened to valuing relationships with his players and leaving the one-and-done route to Kentucky? What about the fact there are more Kentucky players on the Phoenix Suns than Louisville players in the entire league?

Kentucky wasn’t recruiting Nwora, so there’s no hard feelings here, but it’s quite hilarious Pitino is promising kids a direct path to the league these days. THERE ARE THREE UofL PLAYERS IN THE NBA! Ask Montrezl Harrell about sticking around. Ask him what Pitino did for his NBA chances.

“Coach Pitino said he knows for sure that he can get me to the league fast.”

Yeah it is so funny how he talks out of both sides of his mouth. This kid should know what his record is sending kids to the NBA . His parents should have checked that before letting him commit. Don’t you kinda feel sorry for Rick? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

When some old people reach a certain age, it is no longer safe to let them drive a car. Should the same rule be applied to a basketball program? 😉

I know this is asking a lot from an 18 year old, but when you are the 21st ranked player at your position coming out of high school, you should probably do a sanity check when a coach tells you he can get you to the league “fast”.

Does this kid not know how to conduct research? It’s very easy to find out that Rick doesn’t play freshmen much and prefers juniors and seniors. That Rick has a terrible track record with 5-star recruits, and that Rick hasn’t had a single player go one-and-done since he began coaching at U of L.

Why would anyone commit to UL BEFORE the NCAA announces its findings? I am fully aware nothing may happen but at least give it a week….

it’ll be another year before they announce penalties. still very much a roll of the dice.

Calipari arriving at Kentucky has basically ruined Rick Pitino’s life and made him just seem desperate in everything he says and does, as it relates to his basketball team. I realize that UofL won a title in 2013*, and I also realize that the run UofL has had the last 10 years is one of the best they’ve had in school history. What makes it so funny, is despite that success, UofL has still been in Kentucky’s and Calipari’s shadow. Pitino genuinely thought he could do at UofL what he did at Kentucky. While he has elevated UofL’s profile, his behavior in recent years is proof-positive of just how desperate he’s become to match Kentucky, while failing miserably at it.

Technically, this could be true if, by “league” he meant rec league. I actually kind of feel sorry for the kids who believe his constant b.s.
