REPORT: Stephen Zimmerman has made his decision

In expected yet disappointing news, Scout.com’s David Woods is reporting that Stephen Zimmerman has made his college decision. Woods, who writes for Scout’s UCLA site “Bruin Report Online,” says Zimmerman will commit to UNLV, his hometown school.

If true, it’s hardly surprising. UNLV has been trending for Zimmerman for the past few weeks, and earlier this week, 247 Sports’ Jerry Meyer cited sources that said Zimmerman was expected to commit to UNLV very soon.

With Zimmerman out of the mix, expect Kentucky to continue to pursue Charlotte graduate transfer Mike Thorne, a 6’11” 270 lbs. center who could compliment Skal Labissiere very nicely in Kentucky’s front court. With Dakari, Willie, and Karl all gone, the Cats need a big body in post.

Best of luck to him. Can’t really be too upset at a kid for wanting to stay home.

Why on earth if you are a basketball player would you want to go to UNLV over UK. I don’t care if it is your home school or not.

To bad he will spend what time he has in college playing for a team with no chance or going anywhere.

Not holding my breath on Zimmermann, but also putting ZERO stock in this and other reports of our chances being lost. First of all, this dude’s article lists three different schools – Kansas, UCLA and UNLV – as “all seeming to take pole position at one time or another.” I’m going to trust Matt that Cal and company felt great about Zimmerman for the better part of the last six months, which seriously calls into question this writer’s understanding, let alone inside knowledge, of the recruitment as a whole.

And as far as him shutting down his recruitment, does he really need any more visits from coaches to fully understand his options? If anything I read his canceling of in-home visits as needing time and space to seriously study those options before making a decision. At this point he has all of the information he needs to make the best choice for him and his family. Seems that conducting visits at this late stage would only invite an unnecessary amount of emotion into the process.

Again, not saying we get him, just calling BS on this guy or any other so-called experts knowing with anywhere close to 100 percent certainty what he’s thinking and/or planning to do.

Matt already said on Twitter that he thinks Zimmerman goes elsewhere

I wanted him, but a 22 year old transfer may suite UK better
